I will be galant and not post names of lunatics that were for months sure that Tua beats Adamek:yep I feel sorry for David, he can still fight for decent money and give fans some power KO's like he used to do in the past, but after Barrett many of his fans just got sober.
It was similar in parts to the 2nd Rahman fight except Tua was even more past it, the knockdown was very similar to the after the bell one in Rahman II except Tua was definitely hurt this time. For me, he lost his edge about 1-2 years before the Lewis fight, by changing trainer to Kevin Barry, putting on weight and treading water by fighting bums. That took away from the relentless well conditioned HW of 1998 and before, that wore down young big name HWs. In reality Tua was past his peak by the time he fought Lewis just as many say Tyson had a very short prime.
Wlad is not going to KO anyone within 6 rounds with his new, overcautious style. It took him 7 rounds to destroy completely shot Rahman, and I guess against a puncher like Tua he would fight safety-first fight more than usually (if that is possible).
We didnt get sober, he just got old. A younger Tua has obviously beaten better boxers than Monte, no disrespect to him. Anyway thats enough for me, as Monte Barrett said after this fight "Its the fighters that are pure and boxing game that is rotten" or some **** like that :|:|:|:|
I saw the fight and I followed Tuas career since before he fought Ruiz, his defence as well as his punch timing is shot, he is way open for the big right hand and follow up left hook. He wouldnt last 8 rounds I suspect considering he would be taking hard jabs, not Barret-going-backwards lovetaps.
I mean that many were Tua-drank that he could decapitate Klitschko's even at his age (and now he is "old and "shot", but that's normal for boxing "fans"). For me it was crazy idea and now the illusion dissmises rapidly.
Idiots thought Tua had a chance at Wlad. Had Wlad fought him tonight and the odds were decent enough I would have flow to Vegas with a few G's.
Tua's best wins: Maskaev (Had a 10-1 record at the time), Ruiz, Rahman I, Moorer (Way past it) Losses: Ike, Lewis, Byrd Realistic Losses: Rahman II, Barret Honestly, he was out-slugged at one point, out-boxed by the best boxers he faced. The best boxer type he beat was very past it. He's got some alright wins, and then some really bad performances. He was never very consistent, and never beat a huge array of opposition. He was just a good HW in the 90's with awesome power and a great left hook. What is there for us to glorify? That's just the bottom-line.
I do think there's some overcompensating going on at the moment. A Tua stoppage win seemed so likely, given Barrett's rather shopworn nature in recent years. Worth bearing in mind that if his early attacks had been a bit sharper, and but for a disaster of a last round - shoving Barrett unnecessarily to the floor for the loss of one point and then getting knocked down - Tua would've won and it would've been written off as controversial but another tick in the win column. You could argue that this might make Tua MORE likely to get a title shot in some ways... I'd rather give credit to Monte, who soaked up some abuse and kept firing back. After he survived the first few rounds he went to his version of what has ALWAYS won rounds against Tua throughout his whole career; getting that jab out consistantly, giving him angles and sending the right down the chute where possible. Saying Tua was pre-prime before Lewis is not only incredibly convenient (can I please claim Lewis's prime was 1995-2000?) but also lets Tua completely off the hook for getting lazy and unfocused if so. True boxing greatness is in the mind as well as the body, so if Tua just didn't have a champion's mind that's just as bad no matter what his physical state. It's sad because Tua is a guy it's easy to root for, and with that power & chin should've achieved more in his career. I don't think this is the end, but it's a pretty firm indicator of where he stands.
No he is that far gone, anyone with a pulse will beat him now He might look the same to the casual observer but noones home, he needs to retire now, perhaps one more fight against a genuine journeyman to fulfil his final contracted maoriTV fight.
:good I always liked Tua, i guess in reality this is another intresting chapter in HW history closed?
Tua is finished...just think of what one of the better fighters in the division would have done to Tua last night.
