Wasn't Tucker out of the ring for a while after the Tyson fight or at least not as active .He was at his very Best in 87 no doubts
Let me see, the 6'5 225 pound Tony Tucker who fought in the modern heavyweight era vs the slow 5'10 180 Rocky Marciano. Tucker the guy who could handle Mike Tyson's power vs Marciano who couldn't handle 160 pound Ted Lowry power. Tucker by 1st round KO.
Up at 6 but still staggering at 9 while the ref was inches away from him. Fair stoppage and I rate Lewis very very highly.
Yep just been looking at his record.. What a waste of a good fighter ,if he'd stayed active ,kept off the white stuff ,maybe get another crack at Tyson cir 1990? But Tyson seemed to have that affect on a lot of the top level guys he beat in his prime. Almost as if he took something away from them .Only Bruno really had great success after losing to him .Going back to Tucker I was a little shocked at how different he looked when he faced Lewis ,looked like he'd aged 10 years from the Tyson fight.
They had less motivation to train because they thought they had no chance to be champ again since Tyson was dominant, young and expected to reign for a long time. Once Tyson got knocked out several of them made comebacks
Utterly ridiculous. No one who watched the fight that night thought that it was anything but a screwjob. There was no staggering at 9. Standing still before the ref with your guard up is not staggering. The footage is extant and it simply did not happen as you said: This content is protected
That's true ,once Tyson lost that coat of invincibility ,then it seemed to spark a change in the division to .We had the Holmes comeback and the new blood coming up such as Bows,Lewis ,Morrison ,Sheldon etc. It seemed to be a fresh exciting time for the heavy s and Tyson was no longer top dog .
This. the ref did the right think. I rather a ref stop a fight a little too soon as opposed to a little too late. Lennox didn't have any legs left and the ref kept him from taking any unnecessary damage.
Agreed. A heavyweight champ who's up at the count of 5 early on in a fight deserves a chance to continue. If that standard had been applied across the whole of heavyweight history then a lot of results would have turned out differently. Holmes against Snipes, Holyfield against Cooper etc
What? Watch it again. He staggered to his left a second after the ref waived his hands and stopped the fight inches away from him!! Tyson vs ruddock was an early stoppage. Chavez vs Taylor was an early stoppage. Both guys had control of their bodies when the ref stopped it. Lewis was not standing straight. he was wobbling and staggering like a drunk so it does.not.matter. at what count he was on his feet. If anything the fact that he didn't take 8 on his knees to regain his senses shows how hurt he was. Zab Judah was up at like 2 and again probably at 5 but he was in no state to continue against tszyu now was he?
