Great contribution! (And excellent compelling reading to engage my mind for the day after a difficult night.)
What a great article about Les Darcy, who was cut down at a tragic young age...How great could he have been ? No way of telling but Darcy was another example of tragedies that betook the middleweight division..For example : Jack Dempsey the Nonpareil--died of consumption at the age of 33. Stanley Ketchel---died from a gunshot to the chest age oe 24 Billy Papke- killed his wife and commited suicide Harry Greb- died at the age of 32 from a breathing operation Tiger Flowers- Died 1 year after Greb from a operation to remove scar tissue from eyes. Les Darcy- great Aussie MW died at tender age of 22 from infection in Tenn. Dave Sands- next to Darcy, best Aussie MW died from a truck accident at young age Marcel Cerdan- great French MW died in plane crash, only after LaMotta claimed injury in rematch. Rescheduled to fight months later Cerdan died in plane crash over the Azores Truly the MW division had so many tragic deaths in it's history...
True mate. Also other tragic figures include Gerald Mclellan, Michael Nunn, Michael Watson, Carlos Monzon
