I used to think Tunney was most similar to Ali. They do share unique things in common, like their outside mobility.

But the more I watch Tunney, the more I think he is like Holyfield. Tunney seems more offensive than Ali. And he is more cagey than Ali. He knows how to maneuver on the inside when exchanging with opponents like Holyfield.

Tunney is comfortable in close distance like Holyfield. Not a huge puncher, but a very effective puncher.

What do you guys think of this comparison? Any other fighters you would compare Tunney to stylistically?

You know what, I think a better description is a combination of Ali and Holyfield.

I always thought Ali took from Tunney and NOT from Jack Johnson like he claimed probebly because everything with Ali at one time was always about race.
The more I watch Tunney the more I like him. I really dont C a stylistic comparison to Holy but he had that kind of determination he was a real complete fighter. A great fighter

Tunney threw a lot of body punches and uppercuts. I've never seen any similarity with Ali.
Tunney fought flat-footed more often than not, sit down on his punches.
Ali was usually on his toes, flicking his punches out on the retreat. Ali was certainly aggessive though, very much offense-oriented in his prime, pouring in the punches in great volume.
