It's possible an Alien would land in the ring and get Frazier but that isn't a likely scenario. In reality Firpo would be kicked out of Frazier's camp even as a sparring partner. If you can't give the champ good work your just taking up space. Joe has a punching bag already.

Hard hitting? Firpo wouldn't know what hard hitting is until he tried to walk the street in North Philly without some bodyguards.
If he cant make it to the gym I doubt Frazier would let him stay on as a sparring partner.

This. Tunney was always in impeccable shape, so I also don’t see Frazier’s left hook being enough to stop Tunney. I definitely see this fight going to the cards.

Tunney remains the single most overrated heavyweight in the sport's history. He has a nothing resume propped up by two 10 rounders against an over the hill champ and ex champ whose spurious claims to greatness were themselves based an a carefully currated list of challengers and an athleticism that had largely abandoned him. There is nothing more to Tunney' s record yet are to suppose he could in any way dissuade the efforts of a fellow who was the best heavy on the planet for 5 or so years and holds the single greatest win in the division's history.

I know it, you know it, it is just the 60-80 yr brigade who have problems admitting it or dealing with it.

Tunney beating both Foreman & Frazier
Marciano beating Liston, Foreman, Ali, Tyson & Lewis

I am not going to overstep the mark like Black hercules aka Ken_Norton804 does but by christ it makes you wonder if he was on to something.

Ellis was indeed a very good fighter, but Tunney was a great fighter. Tunney used the ring much better than Ellis, was a more accurate puncher, and had much better footwork. Tunney was also much better conditioned than Ellis, but to be fair to Ellis he only trained part time and kept a full time job throughout his career, since according to Ellis himself he never made enough to completely support himself as a fighter.

Also, Ellis was coming off over a year of inactivity and wasn’t in peak condition when he fought Frazier. If Ellis were more active and came in at 190-195 lbs he would’ve given Frazier a much better fight. At 200+ lbs Ellis was slow and very hittable.

Let me see Gene Tunney a 170 pound guy who fought in a era where the skills were primitive. Tunney a guy who best win was Jack Dempsey a 190 pound guy who fought in the same primitive era versus Joe Frazier a modern sized heavyweight (Smaller Modern Sized) who fought in the modern era where there skills were modern.

Gene Tunney a guy who fought in a era where the athletes were inferior vs Joe Frazier a guy who fought in a era where the athletes were superior. Joe Frazier by brutal 1st round KO.

Just read the 21 pages of comments. There is a seriously strange poster on this forum, and I don't think I need to mention his name for him to be recognized! The topic? Either Frazier stops Tunney late ,or takes a convincing dec, probably the former.

Tunney was more famous but he wasn't a better heavyweight than Ellis. Nostalgia aside it's not even close.

Tunney has the style like Ali that COULD beat Frazier but looking at comparable fights Frazier is no 3yrs rusty older Dempsey...his foot speed and intensity was better than Dempsey was by the stage...Frazier by Decsion

No man well under 200 lbs is beating a prime Frazier, especially a guy who lacks the power and strength to keep frazier off of him. Styles make fights and in this case Frazier has both a size and style advantage so I dont know why the **** this is such a back and forth debate.
