Tunney-Wills

    I've heard that when Harry Wills couldn't secure a fight with Dempsey that Gene Tunney offered to fight Will only to be turned down. Is there any truth to this?

    Its in the papers. I read Gibbons said Wills does not want to fight Tunney.

    Wills was rank number 1 for nearly 7 years at the time, and he didnt want to risk loseing a title shot vs Dempsey. Even if Tunney did fight and beat Wills, it would be as much as Jack Sharkey's victory over Wills(Which knock Wills off the rank 1 spot)

    Tragic relly. Still if Wills fought and beat Tunney. I still think Dempsey would not have fought Wills.
