Turki wants to overhaul boxing's PPV structure and lower prices in a bid to combat illegal streaming and build the sport's supporter base. Increasing prices for PPV events has dramatically increased illegal streaming. It was revealed last week that the upcoming Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga would be $AUD132 ($US90), which led to an outcry from fans about it being too expensive. That bout is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, in association with Matchroom Boxing. Generally fights in the UK on PPV go for about $48 (£24.95), while American fans regularly pay between $103 ($US69.99) and $132 ($US89.99). Aussie fight fans generally pay around $59.95 for local PPV fights and depending on the event, slightly less for overseas fights. However, Turki plans to combat the rise in illegal streaming by working with broadcasters to lower their prices on his events to less than £20 ($38) in the UK and $20 ($29.99) in the USA.
20€ for a good card is more than fair and imo for a lot of more people affordable. The ppv numbers will go through the roof
He's making big shows cheap so nobody will pay for Canelo fights and then if his plan works fighters like Canelo won't be able to make money without him.
Great idea. $30 for a fight is fine. I'm not paying >$75 for a fight unless the main fight is somehow historically important and the undercard sizzles.
Saudis once again doing everything to save boxing. The best cards for the lowest prices. We've been calling out for something like this for years and I'm really excited that it's happening.
I wouldn't pay 20c for a ringside seat to watch Canelo or Mayweather get their asses handed to them only to be gifted with winning decisions by the Vegas mafia
Canelo, nor Floyd, are FIGHTERS!!! Both of the cowardly cheaters are Nothing more than Divas. Theyre both sadly lacking in the cojone dept
Good. Canelo aint fought nobody since Bivol...he shouldnt be getting $30m for freaking Berlanga gtfoh
Always wondered the economics of a say $20 ppv vs a $70. Surely more people would buy in if it's cheaper
