I understand what youre saying but by not showcasing certain fighters you may not get the best fighting the best.

If you haven't figured out that this is a business more than sport, then you haven't been paying attention.

"Fighters" like Shakur and Haney are losing fans and money by being labeled as runners.

If he never got into the sport we would've missed out on some of the biggest fights of the last few years.
Boxing is a business as well as a sport surely you know this?

What’s up with the discussion of Mayweather? He didn’t run. He fought defensively. Not the same.

also, he made his real money in a pure PPV era. He earned his money off PPV buys. And he generated buys. He was a good self promoter. Say what you want about him, but people wanted to watch him.

I agree lad Floyd was not a runner he was a great defensive fighter I found most of his fights entertaining. Guys like Haney and Shakur think they are fighting like Floyd but they are not even close both of them are terrified of getting hit. The only time I ever saw Floyd fight scared was against Pacquiao.

    I completely agree...

The counter argument might be that that's not the priority here - the most entertaining would be fighting the most entertaining?

It all depends what the intention is!

If youre fine with certain fighters being frozen out because of their styles then so be it but I wouldnt call you a real boxing fan. All businesses have risk you can have two brawlers fight and still not make money because people don't care and don't know them.

Yes it's a business and like all business there's risks involved. Just because 2 fighters fight in a "exciting style " doesn't guarantee profit. You also need name recognition and star power. If that's the case you could havd a card full of bar room brawlers and set ppv and gate records but that isn't the case.

Agree about risks I think Turki took a risk with Haney and it failed and he doesn't want that happening again. I am not suggesting bar room brawlers but Haney was literally running from Ramirez. Turki did make Usyk and Fury both guys are great boxers not brawlers and that delivered big time in the first fight. You are right exciting style doesn't always guarantee a profit nothing does but it is what the majority of fans want to see.

I'm tired of hearing fans complain about how a runner stunk up the fight/card just about every weekend.
Runners give the sport a bad name. Bottom line.

    My first thought was good.

But now thinking about it, he can't dictate how boxers fight. And not all of the backfoot styles of boxing are boring.

He's getting too big for his boots. First he did the dodgy telling the scorecards in the Sheeraz-Adames fight and the robbery draw, and makes Sheeraz laughably the main event vs Berlanga, then he makes the racist comment about what he wishes the heavyweight champ would look like, now this, etc. He's becoming more unlikeable, corrupt and on a power trip by the day.

Turki must be the oldest looking 43 year old on the planet.

Can't believe he's only 43, thought he was much older!

HBO , Showtime, Fox sports, ESPN have all tried and they have all lost money and eventually stop showing boxing (ESPN to give up after contract with TR runs out). Putting on fights for hard core boxing fan does not pay. Show casing pure boxers don’t pay. Again, they (Saudi) are paying for it and they have the right to put on what they think will make money and what people want to watch. Can they make fights with runner? Sure they can but it sure as hell wont be a big money fight. These will be relegated to filler cards.

Probably a necessary step to decouple the sport from the Mayweather era. For all of Floyd's greatness, his obsession with maintaining his undefeated record as a business strategy, and his unwillingness to take a hit have become the benchmark for a new generation of champions, and it's driving people away from the sport. Boxing is infinitely better off with the Saudis, people are already forgetting just how bleak the promotional outlook was before they got involved.
