I agree that promoters shouldn’t be able to dictate *how* people fight - however…

Boxing as a sport is set up like no other. For all its sanctioning bodies and governing commissions etc, the fights and events are literally just prize fighting - the promoter just puts up the money for the fights that they are interested in and believe they will see a return in.

as they are the guarantors, they can choose to pick whichever fights they want to endorse. They are under no obligation to work with fighters they believe will not be entertaining. They are the “buyers” in this portion of the contract. And it’s their prerogative.

a lot of fighters feel entitled these days. But the power of the purse lies in their draw ultimately.

And that’s the sad part, a talented fighter (like Shakur) is terrified to engage and rather point fight to win extremely boring decisions instead of fighting and blowing out his opponents as he could/should.

I’m not saying to be a rock ‘em sock ‘em robot but if you want to be a fighter, fight or at least look for the stoppage.

Exactly, it’s boxing, not point karate. True fans appreciate boxers/fighters, not runners.

Agreed, but the warning signs were there long before the fight night, the insane cost, the poor planning, and the sheer logistical nightmare of hosting a fight night in Times Square should've been thrown away on the same day the idea was suggested. I'd even go so far as to say that the card was so bad because it was in Times Square. Boxers who regularly stink the place out like Haney could run and avoid Ramirez all night because he wouldn't have felt the pressure of the crowd on his back.

Shakur's performance against DLS alone should mean he never gets on a Saudi card again. I found it odd that Top Rank were so happy to see the back of Shakur, but after less than a year of witnessing his antics on social media and the way he's acted while being with Matchroom, I completely understand why.

Very good then. Hopefully via scoring too. ONE Championship already done similar with their own org many, many years ago, like their scoring favors action than boring lay and pray. For example, gaining score via take down defense, hence take down spammers would not abuse it especially if the opponent is very good at negating it.

Its hard to say because theres no way to measure influence like that. There isn't going to be a formal announcement. But whats clear is Turki wants that IBC like role(the mafia) whether he already has that role or not who knows.

My concern is they are going to freeze out point fighters and only go for the power punchers. We've seen something like this in MMA already happen. It was justified with the same general overtones.

All the people saying he shouldn’t do this , please explain why any promotor would put on fights viewers don’t want to watch. The hardcore boxing fans don’t count cause they aren’t going to give these guys the millions they want. This also doesn’t mean he wont sign these so call runners. They just aren’t going to be the headline and the ones getting the fat check.

This isn’t a charity. You are now going to get paid what viewers you can bring.

I'm pretty sure this was a direct reaction to the horrible weekend in the US where only Bakole and Canelo showed up to fight, and both were too slow to catch up with their opponents.

Shout out to Bakole here. This should work to his benefit too. Ok, he's got flaws, but dude's a gladiator. Put him in a ring with someone like Kabayel, you're going to get absolute fireworks.

I feel like this is almost discriminating against Murican fighters and that's definitely not what we need.
Just because someone can't understand the Philly Shell or other techniques doesn't mean you block out a whole population.
If I was a Murican fighter, I'd take this one to the UN.

The UN should definitely help tha bruvvas out if they have the resources, but i believe their funds would be better spent on supporting places like Detroit, Memphis, Baltimore and other vibrant examples of Black Culture that are unjustly suffering from socioeconomic realities of today.

Sounds good and all but how about this as well: They need to match savage punchers with Glass Jawed opponents. Maybe lure Roy Jones Jr out of retirement and put him in there with Big Bang Zhang?

Yeah, staging the card in Times Square did nothing for me and it still wouldn't have even if the fights had been hugely entertaining

Yeah. If you're headlining in your hometown and your own fans boo you and leave the arena early in their droves it's probably a good idea for Turki to not be sending you an invite to fight on one of his cards

Ajagba boxed his head off and got robbed. You're trying to say Ajagba was running?

Some fighters are called runners by people who just don't like them even though it's not a reflection of their usual fighting style. Crawford got called a runner when he beat Postol despite knocking him down twice and he isn't anywhere close to being that kind of fighter that fights negative.

People can't seem to differentiate between actual boxing using defense and footwork to win and fighting negative with the intent of survival or afraid to engage. As long as those fighters are at least throwing more punches and putting more work on their offense while boxing smart and using sound defense while on the move they shouldn't have to worry about being penalized for "running".
