in our boxing club we turn our fist while throwing the left hook so more knuckle connects, anyone else do this as i never really see the pros do it
don't every trust profesional technique. the police once came to my school and said technically you are at your best as a driver in your first few weeks. you think you get better as a driver but you actually get worse as your technique fails and you begin to bend all the rules. the same applies to boxing. boxers start off learning technique then deterioate i.e. they find out they can take an okay shot so they stop putting their chin down. one example is hatton. technically i'm sure he looks better as an amateur than a pro. in the pro he looks awful technically.
As an amateur u have to do it to score cos if u do wat the pros do they call it a slap which to be honest i find this riduculous. I throw mine the way the pros do it anyway thats they way i feel comfortable.
Yeah, throwing hooks with the thumb up, knuckles facing inward makes it more likely to get called for a slap. I still do it that way though because it feels more comfortable and I can hit harder and I've only got called for slapping a couple times and it was always on body shots. The pros don't have to worry about it because they aren't as strict about the slapping rule in pro boxing, they don't have to hit with the white part of the glove, and only get called for slapping when it's really flagrant and they hit with the palm. Alot of pro boxers still do punch that way though. Whatever feels most comfortable.
The ozzies throw it like that. Looks at Katsidis for a good example. I found it to be restrictive. I used to clatter people with left hooks. They can call the slaps if they want but most of the time only had to land one or two- spesh in the ams.
