    Hi everybody,

I have been boxing for about a year now and if everything goes the way i hope i will be having my first fight this summer. My weightclass is Welterweight.

I have been following your discussions on the forum for a while now, and i have finally decided to join you on the site. My english is a little rusty, so i hope i can make this question clear.

When i do shadowboxing i can box in a pretty fast pace, but even though i have the speed i can't seem to bring it with me into the ring. I can't seem to outbox fighters who are half as good as me because i go down to their pace.

So my queston is, could any of you post some fights/fighters with great speed i could study or do you maybe have some general advice on the subject?

    I would really appreciate it!

Maybe your trying too hard to be fast when you should focus more on simply landing accurately?

While there's many types of shadowboxing, try the one best fitted for you. Are you trying to tighten up your form? Are you focusing on combinations? There's more to it than simply "shadowboxing." Here's a good shadowboxing video to study regardless mate.

hmm... I don't have a problem with landing a few punches, my problem is i don't land enough punches and don't score enough points.

But now that you mention it, how can you build up more accuracy in your punches? or is it just training?

Thanks for the video! Manny sure is fast

I actually have a hard time throwing combinations in the ring, most of the time I don't land or i just throw them to slow and my opponent mess it up for me

Well your trying to land combinations at speed in the ring.

I would simply say don't try to run before you can walk.

In other words, focus on simple combinations, the 1-2 for instance, and focus on just landing. Keep doing that, it doesn't matter if it's repetitive, you'll improve.

Also to improve speed I think a punchbag of some sort is far more effective than shadow boxing. A punchbag moves, presents you with angles and allows you to improvise a bit more, naturally building up speed and power through it's resistance. Punching air won't give you that resistance.

Also, you said that you tend to go down to your opponents pace. Is this a mental thing more than a skill level concern? If subconciously you are afraid of doing some sort of damage to your opponent (which is unlikely anyway with headguard's and sparring gloves), your less likely to perform to your best ability.

And finally, don't even care about scoring points in sparring mate, it's for learning. If you watch the Sky show "Ringside" this week, you'll see Amir Khan stating that he uses sparring to try out different things, so he is ready for all sorts when he has to fight. Sparring is not about winning or losing.

Hope some of this helped :good
