If you were to throw a stepping right hand would you twist the back foot or just drag it with you as if you were moving in with a jab? By stepping right hand i would mean if you were to move in with a jab followed up by moving in with a cross to close the distance more.
Pivot first, then drag or step off of it. Use the force of the pivot to push off a bit so your right leg catches up to the left one. Practice walking/stepping 1-2's and it will come naturally, or watch footage of fighters punching on the move.
i think the hardest right hand with the step is actually a small back foot stomp ending with a twist..its how tom yankello out in Pittsburgh teaches it..also..watch joe louis...thats how he does his.
If you've already stepped in with the front foot, then pivot the back foot as you bring it up as you throw the right and just as the punch lands, drop your weight on to the rear foot as you step it into the canvas in the pivoted position.
No you don't twist the back foot when stepping in,,,the shot starts with the push of the back toes , when both feet land that's when the punch should land its the amount of conviction you put into the push off the toe's that adds to power impact this counts for both Jab & Straight steppins
Not sure if this is what you're referring to but here's how I was taught (it works). Throw a 1-2 like you normally would, but instead of taking the usual little steps you lunge in with the jab and do your pivot for the right hand in midair. You land with your body and foot already rotated. It's kind of a long-range 1-2. I like to drop it to the body sometimes as well. It's difficult to explain but 123ko's avatar ^is pretty similar. That's (roughly) the position you should be in when your back foot hits the ground.
i acutally find that as you step and your foot hits you can twist and it seems to get a bit more power on it....
Bring the foot down and twist it on impact. As has already been said look at Joe Louis. That's the way I was taught.
pivoting activates the chain from the ground up. drop the knee, turn the hip and generate the punch stomping and early pivot/dropping knee can telegraph. even many upper body movements and repositioning of the hands and shoulders, so work on making it work simultaneously.
