For a British clash this has ridiculous low amount of buzz.. I heard there are only like 4000 tickets sold.
for a mere $70 or $80 for HD Looks a lot of money, but you get Billy Bob Saunders at the undercard against a teak tough undefeated fighter and the 27th of July is Pikey independence day :hey
Tickets are selling like **** for a few reasons. Its a rematch to a fight that was pretty crap first time round. Neither fighter is a massive ticket seller and the tickets are crazily priced. Also being on Boxnation there is little to no intrest outside of the hardcore boxing fans.
I agree. However Haye v Fraudley was on Sky PPV, and Sky are masters at hype and marketing. They had the casuals eating out of their hand on that one. Same with Froch v Groves 2, no way would that have done 80k tickets and around 1m PPV buys if it wasn't Sky
Haye and Audley have had a lot more media exposure than Fury and Chisora though. Haye is very media friendly with his looks and athletic, crowd pleasing style while Audley is a household name due to his Olympic gold medal. Both are much more well known by the general public. Both Fury and Chisora are too unpredictable to get much media exposure outside of the sports media. Chisora is completely unknown outside of the hardcore boxing fans. He's probably best known for getting KO'ed by Haye. Fury acts the clown which may get him attention on social media and boxing sites but notoriety isn't the same as true celebrity or fame. Last time I mentioned his name to a non boxing fan they immediately said "isn't he the guy who punched himself in the face ? ". For hardcore boxing fans this is a good match up and a big domestic clash but for general sports fans it isn't a big deal. I personally thought there would be more hype though.
Man, I wish they'd make an all boxing channel here in the US. It'd be like a $10/month subscription and you get all HBO, UK, Showtime, Box Azteca fights and PPVs. It'll also play pass fights 24/7. Man, that'd be awesome.
