What the hell is this crap, McGrain? It's not in colour and there's no Larry Merchant or even Howard Cosell commentating? Stop clogging up the forum with this junk and make room for good threads.

My laptops being a twat. Cant see it.

McGrain how does Welsh box here? Boxing master outfighter or inside fighter with a **** hot jab?

Ive seen him described as both, I tend to lean towards the latter though all things considered.

from the footage i watched, the former (in my ignorant opinion). great straight right hand and able to time and distance it well. able to work inside and out but seems to be picking his shots from the distance

Interesting. The general outline that is given is he was a proper out-boxer/fencer type with a great jab. But from reading reports I never really seen this at all, it seemed to just sort of become an accepted thing.

I always thought he was much more rounded, I mean his display against Driscoll was of a pressure fighter, trying to get inside behind his jab and spoil and out-muscle the great Driscoll, but, albeit Driscoll is an ATG boxer and one of the very best 'pure' boxers going.

Seemed to be a bit more like Carlos Ortiz (in a rough stylistic sense) IMO.

    Ah, you got it then?

Yeah, he was grim. A grimmer workman than even Ortiz for me. The point was that he was elusive, he rode and he slipped.

I think there is an actual alright amount of film of wee Welshy.

If I remeber right he baically was from a fairly well-off family and learnt to box over here at an early age, hence the nice boxing style, but went away to America to further his education in fistiana, and this became abit 'rougher' as us Brits said back in the day about American style boxing. Hence his well rounded approach.

I mean he is more like Ortiz in approach, as in he seems to be solid at everything, very versatile box-fighter.

A noted master of the feint. I imagine him vs Driscoll was a feinting masterclass at times.

You were able to watch the footage?

He was in aggressive pursuit of his business. You don't beat Benny Leonard by jousting, I don't think.

    I'd compare him to Saldivar.
