1) At this point, October 5, 2022, Roy Jones should be ranked higher historically than any fighter that has come after him. 2) Andre Ward was the best fighter of the 2010s. Thanks for reading.
While I believe that prime Roy Jones may be the best fighter in history he fought for 15 years after his prime and I think it legitimately damaged his legacy a bit. I think Pacquiao and even Mayweather give him a strong run for his money from a historical perspective. I'm a Ward fan but I have a hard time saying that about a man who fought only 11 times the whole decade. Canelo Alvarez fought 25 times during the decade and beat a lot of very good fighters. I don't even know if I think Alvarez is the best fighter but he is more deserving than Ward of that honor.
Could you expand on that? I personally don’t see a case for RJJ but it could be interesting to hear one.
If Roy called it quits after Ruiz, you’d get no disagreement from me. The 2010s is a tough pick for best fighter. Ward fought about as frequently as Sugar Ray Leonard did in the 80s but without the era-defining matchups.
