Jorge Luis Gonzalez. Winner of gold medal's ,beating Bowe and Lewis in the process. Was all set up to be a big star with a 23 0 record .Then he faced Bowe ,rest is history. Duane Bobick.Another success in the amateur s ,won his first 15 by ko. Got to third ranked in the world ,then faced Kenny Norton. He was caught with a big right hand and put out in the 1 st.He never recovered from that. So who wins this battle of Disappointment s ? 10 rounds
Amateur level isn`t a clear indicator of how a fighter will do as a pro, during Bowe and Lewis`s era amateur boxing was awful, Gonzales beat a load of bums and didn`t know what he was doing in his fight with Bowe, you need to get a good pro trainer like AJ has in McCracken, Robert was decent pro himself, Gonzalez had a bunch of clowns training him, winning a gold medal over 3 rounds is no indicator of how you will handle a former world champ in te pros, Mayweather didn`t even win a gold medal at the Olympics, and has lost the first 3 rounds in a number of his fights, heuses 3 rounds to work an opponent out, those can be scouting rounds, your ability to adjust over 12 rounds is what separates you from some Olmpic champs, Mike Tyson didn`t even get to the Olmpics in `84.
Pro and Amateur 2 different things absolutely. But what about these two in the pros meeting up ,face to face ,both undefeated .Let's put Gonzalez before Bowe and Duane before Norton ? Two guys built up to a glittering future ,who walk's away with the W .
