1. For all those questioning Cotto's courage/heart or Evangelista Cotto's decision - Margarito was up 96-94 on 2 of the judges scorecards going into the 11th and the other was 95-95. - EVEN IF Cotto had got up from the second count ready to fight on and Evangelista had stayed out of it, and Miguel somehow made it through another minute to the bell without going down again (which, considering the state he was in and that Margo had victory in his sights, would have been IMPOSSIBLE), the round would have been 10-7 for Margarito because of the 2 counts. Which means that with one round to go, the scores were 106-101 Margarito on 2 cards and 105-102 on the other. - SO... the fight WAS 100% ALREADY LOST before Evangelista Cotto intervened, because anyone watching it knew for a concrete FACT that Cotto could not have KO'd or stopped Margarito. So Evangelista WAS RIGHT to save his man from an inevitable KO or a horrible beating en route to a clear points loss. - And Miguel Cotto was 100% RIGHT to go down again. He had given everything, had nothing left- was he supposed to get brutally KO'd just to keep "fans" happy while his children were at ringside?? The fight was gone, he was gone, getting up to get hurt and risk permenant damage would mean nothing. Morales did the same thing in the 3rd Pacquiao fight. When you have nothing left and know you can't win, be man enough to let it go. With Oscar Diaz in mind, fans calling Cotto a coward in this instance are DISGUSTING. 2. Kenny Bayless - Did an excellent job throughout, but it must be mentioned that (although it 100% would not have made the slightest bit of difference to the outcome as Margarito was clearly the better man on the night) Bayless did allow Margarito to strike Cotto to the head when Cotto was already on one knee, and never did anything about it. Poor decision.
He could have had a point taken for the hit whilst Cotto was down but I genuinely believed he was comitted to the punch. I think Cotto will be back, and sharpish.
If i was trainer i would do 110% the same, he may even safed Cottos carier, not many boxers can come back from biting like that. The big question wil Cotto be ever the same Cotto he was? Have to wait and see
I watched the fight on Setanta in the UK, we didn't get the scorecards immediately after the fight, but I got them on the internet not long after. My personal scorecard was 95-95 after 10, but obviously would have been at least 105-102 after it.
