I have been amatuer wrestling since highschool in the 1960's.Wrestling at least once a year.Still do ok, last year took fourth at heavyweight, losing to a college guy and a guy in the Army.Tore my knee (at work)doc says probably should give up wrestling. My questions are,is there an age limit to Golden Gloves boxing, and two, could a guy box competivley on a couple of not so good knees.Right now running and skipping rope are out of the question, biking don't hurt.Probably seems silly to a lot of you,but this 58 year old guy just wants one last hurrah.Thankyou.

Yes, the limit to compete in the advancing Golden Gloves tournament is 35. But there is something called the Master's division; depending on where you live you could get sanctioned bouts as a master's competitor and then there's a lot of Master's fights at the Ringside tournament in August.

They won't. There's no such things as exhibitions in the US, you'll have to get 3 doctors to sign off on it and it depends on your age; but you'll be matched with people within 10 years of your age. Trust me, if you're in your late 50's you don't want to be boxing a 21 year old.

Maybe you're on to something, but as a Old wrestler in his 50's,maybe its been all luck, but I have won some tourney's against competion 35 years younger than me.But guess I will take what I can get.

I'm 46 and have sparred with the younger guys and it is hard to get your body to do what your mind knows it should be doing. Give it a go, just remember your legs are so very important in boxing. No dream is silly. Life is to be lived to the fullest, you know that. Good luck.

Have you done much boxing training down at the local gym? Once you get down to some serious training it won't take long for you to figure out if your body can tolerate it. Age is always an issue, but some guys seem to age slower than others.

Well done mate.... Thats a great achievement, but while the body continues to gain strength beynd the mid thirties boxing is primarily a reflex sport and very different to wrestling. Good luck though.
