He was no slower then Rocky. Definitely not. These guys loaded up with basically every shot. That's probably why. I say Liston and Foreman are way faster

Yes, Marciano had slow footwork. A prime Rocky did not have slow hands though. They were far from fast, but they weren't slow. I'm not arguing that Liston and Foreman had faster legs than Rocky, because they did. In handspeed, Rocky has the edge. Regardless of weight, Rocky had faster hands. It doesn't matter of Liston and Foreman had 20-30lbs on Rocky, they did not have faster hands than Rocky, which is the bottom line.

Rocky loaded up too. The 3 of them are known to do so and fun to watch because of it. Liston was definitely slower than the Marciano of '51-'53. 1954 onwards is a different story.

Fast, slow? who cares? so long as they land and do the job so what? Great fighters pull the trigger at the right moment, when in position. They can orchestrate the victim into position no mater how fast he is then "pop!". fast or slow they still do the job just as well because the timing is there, the radar is there and The power is there.

I dont see anyone complain that foreman, liston and marciano did not hit them fast enough! "say, if he hit me a bit quicker it would have made all the diference!"....

So wrong on so many counts!

Firstly, you must read my posts to know what they say!

I say "great post" if I, erm, think that someone has posted, a, erm, great post! But I think you'll find that some of my posts say more than "great post"...if you bother to read them!

Glad to hear that you respect other Marciano fans because they have their argument...I really do not care if you respect me or not.

Yes, I am a fan of Rocky Marciano...but a "fanboy"? This terminology makes me smile...I think I know what you mean by this...rather describes you when it comes to your personal favourites Foreman and Lyle!

Where have I said that I cannot accept anything other than Marciano winning? As an example, I think Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight of all, not Marciano.

You can create any poll you want, the poll you describe wouldn't PROVE anything, this board is about OPINIONS, I can't PROVE who Marciano, or anyone else would have beaten or lost to. I offer an OPINION...I joined this board to have reasoned, civilised debate with fellow boxing fans, we all have different opinions, naturally. I did not join this board to get into unpleasant arguments with anyone...

For what it's worth, I don't believe Marciano's defence was "great", but I believe it was better than you give it credit for. I don't think Marciano was particularly fast. I don't think Marciano was "skilled" in the way a Sugar Ray Robinson was - but he wasn't that type of fighter - he had other attributes. He had certain talents, for example freakish physical strength, stamina, power, determination and the ability to make his strengths overcome the strenghs of his opponents. Marciano made the most of what he had...and did so effectively. Do you agree?

My own opinion is that there appears to be a modern, often ill-informed revisionism regarding Marciano that, for whatever reason, appears to want to belittle Marciano and his achievements...the latest trend appears to be to question his durability, which I find astonishing. I personally feel that Marciano would be a hard night's work for any heavyweight who ever lived.

You yourself on another thread described Marciano's decision to retire undefeated as "not brave", I find it astonishing that anyone could accuse Marciano of doing something "not brave" in relation to boxing. Personally, I think his decision was eminently sensible.

You have stated that Marciano finished every fight - and I'm paraphrasing - with considerable facial damage - another poster has posted photographs PROVING that was not the case, but you STILL don't accept that you were incorrect - that is a FACT!

You state that "and i can name tons of fighter who would beat rocky marciano.plain and simple" - this is your opinion - but you present it as if it were fact...this is the point I am trying to make!

Combat - as I said above, I don't come on here to get into unpleasant arguments with anybody, but to have reasoned debate.

Rocky was a great fighter. It was based on his intelligence, heart, condition, strength, chin and punching power. It was never based on his boxing ability, reach, speed, defense or resistance to cuts. He is an all time great heavyweight based on accomplishment and on a pound for pound basis. That , AGAIN, being established, his strengths do not match up favorably against the best of the bigger men. He would not have the advantages he displayed against Walcott, Louis, Charles or Moore in such match ups ... he simply does not translate as well against larger men because he did not possess great speed ... the main reason Manny Paq has moved up and succeeded is because of his power and SPEED. Without his speed he would be no where at 140, 147 and up ...

Rocky's strength, power, stamina, chin, and heart/determination does translate well against many of the big men though. The only person I would confidently pick to beat him is George Foreman. Rocky's awkward style of comming in and landing hard, crisp punches with amazing power would make it very difficult for many of the bigger heavyweights.

  10. i agree tommy, and frazier was faster too.

  11. :lol::lol::lol: are you kidding?

of course it is a key factor, they were bigger, stronger and much heavier, they had faster legs and the hand speed was close, marciano was too slow for his size, and if you are honest you will admit it. man, marciano was even small to be a cruiser, the most light rocky weighed 178 or 179 pounds, a ****ing lhw. and he was slow even with this weight

  12. and i like rocky principally because he was a gentleman out of the ring, but i hate the blind fans.

Rocky trained down. His walking around weight was around 210-215. He had zero fat on him when he fought, but he retained the strength of when he was 210-215. Just because they are bigger doesn't mean they are faster. That would be like saying Nikolai Valuev is faster than Lennox Lewis because he is bigger.

Marciano obviously wasn't "too slow for his size" because he managed to have the highest KO percentage out of all of the ATG heavyweights and went undefeated, knocking out all but 3 of the people he fought.

  14. what? you did not understand me... i never say that they were faster because they were bigger...:nut i say that they were bigger and still they were faster. more merit... rocky was small and slow for his size. prime foreman and prime liston were pure muscle. foreman weighed 226-230 pounds when he has amateur, (you can check it on youtube). foreman diminished his weight in his early pro career, because he worked his speed, the natural weight of george was 226-230 pounds of natural way, without to train weights. and he was pure muscle, a ****ing animal.

  15. do you think that his %ko would have been very hight(as it was) in the 60s and 70s? or even in the 80s and 90s?
