Better yet, I firmly believe that Tony was a seuperior fighter to Joe Louis, and defintately should have beatem. He was obviously told to throw the fight, and almost got a bit too carried away when he decked Joe. Tony's training regimens were far greater than that of any other fighter including Evander Holyfield's. He used to eat whole chickens, hot dogs, bowls of pasta, and wash it all down with beer when he was in training for a fight. That's what I call real nutrition. With a diet like that who needs human growth hormone. Additionally, Tony was the owner of a tavern and would train breifly at night after the pub closed its doors. He smoked cigars during training, which I felt gave him the advantage in stamina. Shortly before the Louis fight, he said that he hadn't taken a drink in nearly two full days. Now thats some serious discipline. ITs a good thing the mob kept him under wraps because this was a guy who no doubt could have beaten any two good fighters inthe ring at the same time.
It's also true that he was a much better fighter before he killed that Octopus in the "Galento wrestles Octopus" dream fight. I think he lost a lot of his killer instinct after that tragedy. A prime pre-Octopus Galento, without the mafia holding him back, was a hell of a fighter.
I agree, Look at what the Duk Ko Kim tradgedy did to Ray Mancini. The same could have happened to Tony after he killed that poor octupus ( then probably ate it ).
galento was one of the dirtiest fighters i have ever seen. if he had to fight according to the rules, he would have been mediocre.
I think they could be related to the same thick skeleton breed of humanoid hybrids. Tony was of the thin haired Italian variety and David was the South Pacific version.
