While neither looks impressive, it is inescapable that both were world class fighters, and in a totally different stratosphere to Butterbean.

Even if Butterbean looked like Sugar Ray Leonard, in would be abundantly obvious that he was not in their class, simply based on who they both beat.

 

They were "world class" fighters in a very poor epoch even for heavyweights. They didn't look unimpressive, they looked like bar fight level fighters.

 

I sympathise with your view that the bar for heavyweight talent is low, however we cannot simply overlook success at world level, when examining a fighter.

 

If they were higher class than Eric Esch, they didn't look it on video.

 

Video doesn’t tell the whole story, and even if it did, you could find file that put these two in a better light.

At the end of the day, results have to count for something.

At least these guys looked crude, beating technically good fighters.

 

What other video did they look more skilled, "in a better light"? If I were to name the least skilled boxers I've ever seen, Galento and Baer would be near the top of the list.
