"Two Ton" Tony Galento vs Ken Norton 15 rounds. You just know Galento's left hook is going to land on Norton's jaw sometime in the first 5 rounds. Would be interesting to see how Norton reacts.
Norton by decision. Yeah, elite punchers who were also really good fighters were too much for Kenny, but Galento doesn't present the sort of challenge that he couldn't handle.
Galento was game, and powerful, but realistically, Norton should be able to handle him. I don't exclude the possibility of 2TT landing something big and winning, but it's an outside chance imho.
Its an interesting matchup because for all his crudeness Galento carried real power, which Norton proved to be vulnerable to.Norton could not fight effectively backing up ,which was why he was always in trouble with power hitters, moderate punchers allowed him to come forward and fight his fight, his drag the back foot style was suited to attack not retreat. I'd say Kenny is by far the superior boxer but coming into Two Ton he would always be placing himself in jeopardy and Galento had a top chin which would enable him to stick around long enough to land his hook before gradually being reduced to a bloody mess. Galento by ko inside 4 rds, or Norton by tko late. If I read either result in the next mornings paper I would not be surprised.
Norton's style was suicide against come forward punchers. Especially one's that had a granite chin and a left hook to match. Hell, Galento probably would have lasted longer against Louis had he not listened to his corner. However Norton is not to be underrated here. I am undecided for now.
Much as it offends me to say it, Galento would have a very good chance here. Sometimes the footnote beats the legend.
He also had trouble with determined brawlers who didn't have a big punch. Ledoux kicked his butt but got cheated into receiving a draw. Galento in 2 sounds right.
Ken Norton by wide decision or late stoppage. While its true that Norton had a shaky chin and Galento real power, Tony did not have the tools or skills necessary to take advantage of this... That and whatever power he had was nowhere on the level of a Foreman, Shavers or C00ney. People have somehow come around to thinking that if a fighter had enough power to kill a fly, they would automatically beat Ken Norton.. This is a long time fallacy.. And lastly, Tony Galento was often horribly deconditioned and seldom trained for fights where as Norton was in top condition for almost every match he ever had.
