I think that it is very dangerous to assume that a fighter, who failed the basic tests of being a contender, is going to be a world beater in another context.

That is not a leap that I would personally ever make.

The best I would ever say for somebody like Cooney would be that he might have been something special under other circumstances, but that we will never know.

Nt, this guy just up and stole my TV, backstabbing me along the way. Stealing an expensive belonging like that is not a minor thing. He told me he wasn't giving it back to me. He tried to punk me. Yes, I agree it's not a good look. Obviously, I don't know him and chalk it up to a combination of youth and lack of reflection. Outside of the handful of personal tiffs that he is engaged in the seems like a good guy who is at least earnest if not at times prone to idolization at the expense of unbiased analysis. I am more willing to overlook rose-coloured glasses in an environment where some so-called fans denigrate the efforts of fighters past and present who gave so much to entertain them.

 

I am sorry but there are 6' 6'' power punchers in every era, who never come within sniffing distance of the title.

Back to the topic at hand, I think C00ney was an awesome puncher, but he lost to two guys under 215lb. He would probably do better in Marcianos era, but I don't think he would dominate or anything.

 

A case could be argued for Charles but now is not the time for that. Moore no. They are however the top 2 light heavyweights of all time and 10 lbs doesn't take away the skill they possessed.

C00ney was out of rehab when he lost to Spinks,he was also winning that fight and wasted punches,he defeats spinks 3 out of 5 times if he fights smart. He lost to Holmes but isn't this the guy we are saying defeats Marciano? you also moved the goal post Marciano is 185 hes not even 200 pounds, it matters because you are discrediting C00ney losing to 215 pounders, suggesting it as a point of interest.

 

The fact that Moore only lasted 9 rds against and old past prime Rocky and 5 rds against a prime fresh Floyd Patterson just is a testament to Rocky Marciano.

But some people do boast about such things, because their morals are just so skewed and so far off the norm and they convince themselves they are doing good, and often can convince others too.

For an example: Look at the "Fake Sheikh" character, and his defenders. The vile ways he'd entrap people and purposely ruin their lives obviously for his own ambition, greed and pleasure, while taking the moral highground and feeding it to the tabloid readers as good work.
