He was originally scheduled to fight Cedric Boswell, a good matchup, but is now figthing a bum, Dominic Jenkins. Fields is at the lowest weight of his career and should stop this guy fairly early. I used to write Fields off as a plodding no-hoper, but he's coming off a really good win over useful Kendrick Releford, a fight in which he threw more than 1000 punches, amazing for a guy his size. It looks like Fields has changed his style a bit from a bomber to a volume puncher. Admittedly, he's still very raw and throws pretty slow arm punches, I have to admit I'm a bit intrigued by his potential. He'll never be a champion or even a top 5 guy, but given the right matchup Fields could make for a boxer to watch. Arum has been calling out Rahman for Fields lately, and at this point in Rahman's decline, that might not be a bad fight, although style-wise it's not the most fortuitous for Fields in that Rahman's power could possibly negate his high volume of punches. But if Rock is lethargic like he was in his last outing, he could get outworked. I fully expect the usual he's a bum, white hype job, responses-and that's fair to an extent-- but after the Releford fight I'm interested to see if he can actually compete with some of the top 15-20 guys out there.
Before I make any judgement on him, I want to make sure how his chin is, because a first round KO by the unknown Ford is scary.
Who the **** cares ? Hes a big bum. Joshua Clottley a good fighter in a good division is on the same card.
I would like to see Fields vs Rahman, verry interesting fight! But tonights fight wont last long and wont tell nothing about how good Fields really is. Hes fighting an 211 pounds clubfighter. A fight against Rahman would.
Fields could be a fringe contender, at best. Most likely he gets starched as soon as he faces anyone decent. Rahman has a glass jaw, but if he can avoid getting hit on his own shaky whiskers, even he probably takes Fields out.
thanks emanuel_agustus, im gonna try to catch it , luckly direct tv has the versus channel , i've seen some highlights of tye's last fight but i don't know how his chin would hold up aginst any of the real power punching heavyweights out there
I wouldn't call Jenkins a bum, he has knocked out a lot of the unproven undefeated fighters. I consider him more of a trial-horse, like a Willie Chapman type guy. However, Fields should beat him decisively.
It appears Fields doesn't have a legendary chin but I kind of thought the same thing for a while about Corrie Sanders after Nate Tubbs scorched him with a punch to the temple but Sanders took some bombs from Rahman and Klitschko although he was stopped it was more from him being out of gas than being flat on his back. Fields is very tall and supposedly has a big punch but he started boxing at the age of 24 and I don't think he ever fought as an amatuer. He supposedly works really hard in the gym. It is a tall order for him to win a championship but he is six feet nine inches tall so maybe he can reach it.
Fields is nothing special, but his size makes him a difficult matchup for a lot of smaller heavies. He has a much better motor than the recycled fighters still getting mentioned in the division, but he is very slow and is too erect to avoid a skilled guy's power shots. Actually, though, I think a match between he and Valuev would be interesting, as at least the heights would cancel out to a great extent.
