Barrett did not give Valuev a hell of a fight, no. He was not effective against Valuev.........Barrett did little to nothing, with a couple exceptions where he lunged in and luckily landed a shot to the head that did little to no damage. Barrett, even as he is, is still on another level, entirely than Fields, though. I look for Field's amateurish skills to be very apparent once Barrett starts to dismantle him with relative ease.
If Barrett has anything at all left he can defeat Fields. Fields is possibly the slowest HW around right now, is has-to-be-seen-to-be-believed clumsy, and throws the widest punches I have seen in some time. He gets hit a lot due to a non-existent/leaky defence but I am not certain how good his chin is because he has only fought at best Spider Rico level competition. I'm taking Barrett by UD.
This content is protected I didn't know Arum signed Fields to Top Rank. In January of last year. Maybe if he gets by Barrett (very unlikely), they'll put him in with someone a bit more credible, but I doubt it. He may progress to the Davarryl Willaimson level, one of these days. But in all seriousness, it is good to see him finally being put in there with someone who at least used to be world class in Barrett. Cause now we can see if Tye's immense size and apparent power and strength will be enough to make up for his skills, which are somewhat lacking, shall we say.
Look for this fight to be on the versus channel Heavyrighthand, I believe Arum owns part of that station. Tye Fields will more and likely win, his workrate and decent power should be enough to stop the more talented Barrett, late in the match. As Heavy touched on briefly, Barrett looked terrible against Valuev a few years back, winging shots from his waist, and constantly throwing the overhand right. The height difference really took it's toll on him, I think Barrett's 6'0, 6'0 and half, Fields 6'9 frame should do the same, 9th round TKO for Fields.
Fields is indeed a joke. He makes Primo Carnera look athletic. If Barrett has anything left he wil win.
Way too many people talk about fighters without watching them fight! Holy ****! Comparing Fields to Valuev? Have you ever seen Valuev ****ing fight? Valuev is nowhere near as bad as many think and in fact, is actually a good fighter, especially since he got his knees fixed. He has an iron jaw, amazing stamina, good jab, and decent at best power. Fields? Once again, nowhere near as shitty as many think. He is an above average fighter and due to his amazing stamina and outrageous workrate, he is a threat. His chin is decent and his power is decent. His punches are way too looping for him to a serious threat against any of the elite.
I'll agree with most of that except the decent chin part. If Barrett nails Fields on the chin like he nailed Valuev a couple times, there's a very good chance Fields goes down. He has no defense other than constant offense, but a lot of times that's enough to keep opponents from getting their feet set. Also, Fields has very good power. He's MUCH stronger than Valuev. Problem is that he almost never uses it anymore. If you watched early Fields, he would just lob haymakers, and when he finally connected they would really hurt his opponent. More recently, he's started using a "jab" and throwing "combinations" which are basically a bunch of arm punches with none of his body behind them, turning himself from a gigantic, slow, chinless Edison Miranda to a gigantic, slow, chinless Paulie Malinaggi overnight. IMHO, there's a certain type of opponent that is made for Fields, and there are a lot of these guys currently in the upper echelons of the HW division. Stationary fighters with low workrates will always lose to Fields unless they can knock him out. It doesn't matter that you only connect 15 - 20% of the time if you throw 4 times as many punches as your opponent. Fortunately, Barrett can bring it sometimes, so it might actually be an entertaining fight.
