I recently picked up a pair of Winning lace up gloves (the price was too good!) but am having trouble with the laces. I don't mind tying them loosely and shoving the excess string into the glove so I don't need help getting them on, but I was wondering if anyone has a particular method to tie them. I currently wrap the excess lace around the wrist compartment of the glove, tie a shoe-lace knot, then weave it through one of the laces on the palm of the glove.
cross the strings go around base then go up around the wrist make a X then around one more time and tie
Ah thanks I'll try that. Is there a difference if the tie is tied on the outside or inside of the wrist?
not really. ideally you put tape on around afterwards anyways so it doesnt matter. if not tuck the strings under so they dont cut someone in sparring btw someone else should tie them for you
Ideally even just for padwork and bagwork but if sparring never ever tie them yourself, someone else must tie them and put some tape over them. Laces that are just tucked in can easily come out and its wreckless to risk cutting a sparring partner.
Yeah I had a pair of velcro 16ozs I used for Muay Thai and recently picked up some 10oz Winnings lace ups for an awesome price.
Glad you got some helpful answers. But I can't understand why anyone would bother with lace ups for training. Velcro is the go.
Tying boxing glove laces can be very complicated. It's all about the alignment of the thumb to the cerebral cortex.....and the anal sphincter.
They feel better because they are tighter along the whole length rather than just the wrist. I generally use Velcro training gloves for quickness but I do prefer the feel of lace ups. I have some of the new Reyes universal training gloves which have laces AND Velcro on the way so will update on here when I've tried them out.
