Honestly I wasn't too impressed by Biggs after he lost to Tyson. The Duvas basically dumped him after that bout and then he proceeded to take a lot of time off between 1987 to 1989, only losing badly to Damiani in the interim. Jimmy Young tried to work with him but didn't prove to be an ideal trainer. I watched him fight Ossie Ocasio on the undercard of Witherspoon vs Sims in 1990 and frankly it looked like a pillow fight between college sorority sisters. Tyrell never developed much past the amateurs. he was still making the same mistakes ten years into his pro career. I'd give the undefeated version of Biggs a "shot" at beating Morrison but I say that with no real conviction. He just didn't have any power to hurt heavyweights with and wasn't much for taking it himself. As for the Peoples tournament, it turned out to be kind of a bust. The winner of that event was supposed to get an advertised 1 million dollars, but interest was so low that the check got reduced to around 300 grand if I recall.

I was talking about the Olympics, not a spent Biggs. I should've specified.

I still don't see how that comparison works. Biggs was 23 years old and Lewis was 18. They were fighting in a 3 round amateur bout with headgear and neither of them had begun working with their professional trainers yet. and unless Morrison fought Lewis in the amateurs then you have even less to go by. BTW, Biggs beat Damiani in the amateurs too. didn't pan out that way 4 years later in the pros.

I don't think Morrison would be capable of putting on that kind of performance against any version of Lewis.

In a three round bout with headgear, amateur rules and an 18 year old green as grass Lewis in front of him ? How can you be so sure? And how does that comparison say anything about how Biggs and Morrison would do against each other in the pros when being at the height of their powers? for the record, I actually gave a prime Biggs a chance at beating Tommy and even leaned towards him slightly. But I see absolutely zero relevance in bringing up a 23 year old Tyrell Biggs performance against an 18 year old Lewis in 1984 and under completely dissimilar circumstances.

It's a piece of evidence suggesting that Biggs would outbox Morrison for the first half of a fight between them. Morrison wasn't so good at turning fights around late so he'd probably lose.

It isn't evidence of anything.. Lewis and Morrison are two totally dissimilar fighters stylistically.. And Biggs fought Lewis when Lennox was still a teenager in a 3 round bout under completely different rules. If you want to draw a better comparison then I'd look at the Tyson fight where Tyrell was a fully developed professional taking on a shorter, stocky, hard hitting slugger with a vicious left hook. The result is he got beaten. However, given that he managed to last several rounds with Tyson and even boxed okay in the first few rounds, I am inclined to given him a good shot at Morrison. But certainly not because of a fight that happened long ago in the amateurs between a teenager and a twenty three year old with irrelevant styles.

Do you know who Lennox Lewis is? If you do, how many fighters out boxed him like Biggs did?

irrelevant.. For one thing Lewis fought very few boxers. Much of his career consists of taking on punchers or at least in the pros it did. For another thing he was literally a decade away from reaching the level that he would be at when he hammered morrison.

I guess we can't conclude that Biggs would beat Butterbean either. Biggs did beat Lennox Lewis when Lewis was a world class amature, but The Bean had a totally different style so it's anyone's guess if Biggs could even win a round against him.

Tommy Morrison isn't Butterbean. And if you had read more carefully I actually gave Biggs the slight edge at beating Morrison. But basing this assertion on a meeting with an 18 year old kid who was a decade away from reaching his pinnacle and in a totally different aspect of boxing ( the amateurs ) is pedestrian analysis. Biggs' amateur wins over Lewis and Damiani didn't stop him from losing to them in the pros and losing badly at that. Why would they have any relevance to him fighting someone totally different ?

The trouble with looking at common opponents is that still any thing could happen. It's like my thread regarding Cooper V ruddock. Cooper did better against common opponents but most people had ruddock winning, if u know what I mean. So even though biggs may have beaten Lewis in the games, the actual fight between biggs and morrison may have turned out a big morrison win. But I get where you're coming from. Biggs did really well as a amateur against some big names, a lot better than morrison ever did. I get where you're coming from.

He didn't lose badly to Damiani. He lost on a cut in a competitive fight. He was done by the time he got Lewis. Biggs was matched tough from the start. Morrison would be somewhat fortunate to get through those opponents and set up a Tyson fight. I'm not sure he could,

And that's reasonable. But his performance in a three round fight against an 18 year old with a different style and years before either of them hit their pinnacle says nothing.
