10-round main event of a card in Spong's hometown of Paramaribo, Suriname on Friday night. WBO Latino heavyweight title on the line (second defense of Spong).

Spong (who also claims Dutch nationality and was based in the Netherlands for years, but has now relocated to Miami, FL) is a crossover from kickboxing, where he was elite. Thus far he looks the goods in the legless version, going 12-0 (12) including eight kayos in the opening round! Perea is arguably the best p4p Ecuadorian boxer, and certainly was the finest amateur his country has produced in generations...but professionally hasn't quite lived up to hype, most recently dropping a split decision to Guillermo Jones last year. He was supposed to have taken on Filip Hrgović last week but for some reason withdrew a few days out and was replaced by Kevin Johnson.

This is a good fight, I hope it will be possible to watch it somewhere.

Spong is definitely a puncher, and guys like Miller, Ustinov and Matt Skelton gave it a good go.

He looks a little short and stubby armed though from first glance.

Spong has the height and reach advantage over Perea.

I picked Spong by KO on reflex. Looking at this guy's record he appears to be pretty damn game. Spong still cracks harder than anyone he's been in with and is looking to make his mark before it's too late so I wouldn't rule out a KO from him despite this guy's toughness/durability.

I'm rooting for Perea Castillo, because I hate the name Tyrone, I hate the name Clinton and I really really hate the name Spong, yes I'm that petty and irritable.

If you've followed Spong like IB and I have you'd be a fan. He's pretty good. Honestly probably would have made a serious splash at CW/HW had he crossed over earlier. In the 10 or so years that I've followed him there's not a bad thing I can say about the guy.

He was a great kickboxer. I'm more of a fan of his career there than anything else. But he's far more easy to be a fan of(boxing wise) than say Fujimoto or Ustinov.

No it isn't... Even though I'm fans of both guys even in the context of boxing. Spongs pretty hard to hate though, his fights are always pretty exciting. This represents a step up in class. If he ices this guy or beats him convincingly it's time to take him seriously as a HW prospect wouldn't you say?

Honestly this could have low-key been the under-the-radar best fight of the week, had Korobov not been subbed in for Monroe against Jermall Charlo.

This is actually IMO a better and more interesting heavyweight fight than Whyte vs. Chisora II.
