These are three very famous fighters whose careers were ended by clomiphene. With Benn, it's possible we'll see him again sometime, he's young. edit: Benn is back now. But what interested me is that they all claimed that they did not take clomiphene and it was quite clear from their words that both spong and helenius were telling the truth. Sure, they can be great liars, but I don't see why they would take such a risk and dope when they both had a fight ahead of them that could help restart their careers if they performed well. Does anyone have experience with this doping? Is it possible that clomiphene was part of the contaminated permitted supplement?

Clomiphene is used after a steroid cycle in order to get natural testosterone production to rebound; it is also highly fat soluble, so a fighter can test negative, lose some fat (ie during cutting weight) and clomiphene is released back into the blood stream, causing the fighter to test positive. I think this is what happened to Benn. Clomiphene is illegal per WADA so won't be in any permitted supplements; is it possible that a fighter can inadvertently ingest clomiphene through a contaminated substance? Yes, but then again you can say the same about any PED. Ultimately an athlete has to be responsible for what goes in their body.

I'm not at all surprised Spong failed a test, not that surprised Helenius did and with Benn again I expected that he was on something. 3 cheaters caught imo.

Mostly this but I think it’s zero chance to ingest Clomid through a contaminated supplement/food. Clomid is a scripted fertility medicine and nothing any supplement company can sell and from I know won’t be fed to animals either.

Spong was due to fight Usyk, I think?

Is he completely out of boxing now?

he hasn't fought since that canceled bout. It's been five years without a boxing fight, he'll be 39 in a month. The guy is done. But it's a shame because he had the hardest punch on the planet before Ngannou beat him and was the best boxer in kickboxing, he could have had some fun fights with top boxers. He was kind of like Kabayel - always going forward and using hard body shots

It really says a lot about a fighters “diet” when they go from being bounced off the canvas like a basket ball by a part time boxer and French party chef one moment. Then suddenly they discover chilling power where they ice out fighters at a higher level.

Then as soon as they are caught. Suddenly the power disappears and they end up only decisioning journey men in casino’s.

It speaks for itself really, and if certain people were a bit brighter and less arrogant. Then they wouldn’t be trying to bully the governing bodies into bending the knee. If you take your punishment like a man then you have your British boxing licence back by now.

As Peter UK says it’s a drug used by athletes after a steroid cycle. No reason for you have it in your system unless you are on gear and coming off a cycle. End of story.

What I'm most outraged about are clean affletes like AJ who have to get put in the ring with monsters like Helenius. AJ could have lost his life that night against the 40-ish guy who fought a week earlier. I mean, here was AJ, just trying to get every conceivable cheap LEGAL advantage possible so he could get a highlight KO of old-man Helenius and this outrageous cheat opponent was caught with PEDs.
Think about it. AJ dies in the ring. A world without AJ. England would never get over it.

Helenius needs to be banned for life. Oh wait, he was basically retired, that's why AJ fought him, because he wasn't a threat.

He went back to MMA and got stopped by Kharitonov like 2 years back. Submission IIRC. I wonder what old Sergei is up to currently.
