This is fun, who on this list do you think a 2002 Tyson could beat?

I think Spinks would of beat him. Tyson was too slow and physcially deteriated by that point for him to beat slickster like Spinks.

Nah, spinks had the bad knees, and his best work was at LHW. It would ahve taken Tyosn 6-8 rounds, but he'd of got him.

Tyson couldn't even get past 5 without getting tired. And his knees couldn't been that bad because he beat everybody he fought at heavyweight. including big gerry cooney, who he stopped.

At the the time of the Lewis bout in June 2002, Tyson was shot. He was on mediaction & he had to take his medication otherwise the fight would not have been allowed to take place.

Because of what happened at the Press conference In January 02 to announce Lewis-Tyson, when Tyson went berserk, the powers that be, the promoters, even Lewis himself to a certain extent, were afraid that Mike could switch at any given moment!

I said it at the time & I say it now, it was an unfair fight. Tyson was very docile during the bout, & apart from the first round, seemed resigned to the fact that he was going to lose, like he didn't care! Even during his ringwalk, I remeber seeing Tyson looking apprehensive & that's the only fight I've seen that sort of look on Mike's face in any of his bouts!

With regards to who could the 2002 version of Tyson beaten out of his opponents during his title reign? I;m not sure he could have beaten any of them. I mean unless Tyson of 2002 lands a significent blow & early, then its an uphill task.

Tyson who fought Lewis was not well conditioned at all. I remember all the bollocks at the time about hard he was supposedly training Maui, Hawaii, but it was nonsense! Tyson weighed in at 234lbs for Lewis, some 14lbs or more over his best fighting weight. His next bout after Lewis, against Clifford Etienne, where he was trained by Freddy Roach, Tyson weighed just over 225lbs, some 9lbs lighter than the Lewis fight. Clearly, there is evidence to suggest was anything but training hard for Lewis!

Tyson fought Lewis because he needed the money, plain & simple! Lewis was a great HW, but I will always maintain that had him & Tyson fought at their peaks, there is only one winner & its not Lewis!

And a 38yr. old Larry Holmes would whipped that version of Tyson. He was a hell of lot more preserved than human walking crpse that Lennox Lewis fought.

Spinks was a great fighter, and he was effective at heavyweight, watch the 2 holmes fights, he was a master of outpointing people.

spinks had the bad knees, but was still able to outbox holmes in close fights. tyson of 2002 that fought lewis was not an elite fighter anymore or even close even though they were about the same age. 02 version was already on journeyman level.

Great post and BTW, Berbick is who I picked on the list that I think he would have the best chance of beating. I thought most posters would be on the same page. There's no way he beats the tuckers, tubbs, or greens IMO.

He'd beat all of them except Larry Holmes and (maybe) Tony Tucker. Tyson only managed to walk down Holmes and catch him because he was at the top of his game; Holmes was still a force 8 years later and would be able to handle the slower, less skilled and less durable Tyson of 2002. Tony Tucker put up a good fight and stole about 3 rounds from Tyson; the danger would be that Tucker, even then, was a lazy boxer who never tried hard enough and would find a way to lose.

The Tyson of 2002 was still a very good slugger and his 1980s opposition was mediocre, so I think he'd handle most of them, just with a lot more difficulty.

wow, most people actually think a 2002 Tyson would beat Thomas, who had probably the best jab(aside from Larry Holmes) at that time.
