Great spelling & punctuation there. Surely I have offered more insight than you on this thread no? Oh wait, sorry, I forgot you used six emoticons on your last post so yours was more insightful.
When you consider the craziness that Tyson had going on in the background for that first Bruno fight it's a ****ing miracle he got into any kind of shape, let alone dismantly a decent fighter like Bruno who had awesome KO power and should never have been taken lightly. Then you have the Calslappy nut-huggers defending Joe for ducking Glen ****ing Johnson because Joe was 'getting divorced, and that's painful you know' Tyson had his faults, they're well documented but I like to remember him as the guy that had EVERYONE on the edge of their seats in the mid to late 80's, no other fighter in my lifetime has been so damn exciting. Some have been better sure, but for entertainment value Mike was the man.
But this is what has become tiresome. No one, besides idiots like the person who started this thread, disputes the above but the fact is he did throw it all away. He entertained people knocking out average fighters, he holds no wins over the big three & I am tired of hearing the same excuses made for him. The man was blessed not cursed.
prime mental tyson gives any atg champ a hard time and probably has a good chance at koing any atg heavyweight.
He could stand with any heavyweight that ever lived. Period. I would pick many against him head to head (on a consistent basis), but he would make it worth our fantasy pay-per-view... When I think of the most potentially entertaining and electrifying fantasy matchups, Tyson occupies several of those. Some heavies don't come to mind when thinking of fantasy matchups, like Holmes for instance, who I would pick to beat many top ten heavies head to head, but just don't capture my imagination for long. I tend to think of matches like Frazier vs. Marciano, Marciano vs. Dempsey, Foreman vs. Tyson, Frazier vs. Tyson, and Louis vs. Tyson... These are some examples of fights I feel would be competitive and highly entertaining. Tyson defiinitely fits the bill for entertaining.
Isn't it just great when people chime in making these big, bold, sweaping statements without any structure to their argument? Can you elaborate please or is that the depth of your input?
Tyson got battered by Holyfield & Lewis. Oh wait, I forgot he was past his prime then wasn't he? So why did he get bashed up by the average Douglas? His head wasn't right. Okay, so besides the Spinks KO what grounds do people have to make an argument for him beating any all time great? All people say is "if this, if that" but other fighters are not afforded the same grace. Why is this?
tyson is probably one of the best heavyweights in h2h matchups. he's annihalate every heavy ATG from the start of the 20th century to the early 60's. even post 60's at best there's only a handful of heavy's that would be favored over tyson. if anything the guy gets underrated. also the "stand up to tyson and he'd crumble" myth is one biggest BS lines in boxing.
Tyson was way OVER-RATED! why do people keep bringing him up on this site, and making threads about him:huh, he wasn't even the most exciting Heavyweight fighter of the 80's it was Holyfield, who stomped his ass once and made him quit the in 2nd fight, because he knew he couldn't win, he went to prison twice, lost all his Money and was an ******* outside the ring, good riddence...
that is the depth of my input. I think it is obvious Tyson had the skills to do so. I'm not saying tyson is the best heavyeight (all-time) in any respect. But a pre-douglas, custamado Tyson was so strong I don't know how any boxing fan could go against this prediction. if you're still shitting your pants then try watching some fights.
The fact is that fighters have arguments from both sides... Louis was a big example, as far as competition and knockdowns suffered, and trouble he had with smaller, lesser able men.
Excuse me, why would I be shi**ing my pants? Anyway, I dont need to watch any fights I've seen them all, several times. The pre Douglas, Cus D'Amato Tyson was fighting lesser opposition so how can you say, with any degree of certainty, what Tyson would have done?
But the fact is Tyson did fight elite competition & did lose. It's not Holyfield's fault Tyson got KO'd by Douglas. Lewis is partly to blame for them not meeting earlier because he took the step aside money but Tyson would have vacated the belt anyway.
