When talking of a tyson v ali fight; the supporters for tyson often mention that Ali struggled with a smaller Tyson (in frazier) but I think they were different in style

Frazier was a pure swarmer, pressure fighter with an extremely high workrate

Tyson (in his prime) was a very agressive box fighter who picked his punches a lot more than frazier but never showed the work rate of Joe

Yes they both used head movement to get in and create openings. Tyson liked to jab his way in. Frazier didnt.

They were about as different as two pressure fighters can be.

About as similar as Tunney and Toney or Dempsey and Barkley.

Frasier used cross armed defense, Tyson used peek a boo defense.

That's right Tyson had 5 stoppage losses, including to so-so puncher Buster Douglas and a Holyfield who hadn't scored a proper stoppage for five years. Not to mention Kevin McBride and Danny Williams.:rofl

Frazier's chin only failed him against the mighty George Foreman after some mighty wars with Ali,Quarry,Bonavena etc.

Ones chin gets far too much criticism and the other.....well,kind of gets too much praise.

No, '86-'88 Tyson was a combination of Dempsey and Patterson. The perfect storm.

    OMG m8 XPERT post! :thumbsup

Iron-Chin Frazier has HUGE Chin advantage VS Tyson, it a FACT!! :deal

1976 Frazier could go 15 Rounds with mythical Tokyo Douglas AND not get knocked down. :deal And Frazier might win by KO.

1981 Frazier RAPES And KO's bums Bummy McBride And Danny Williams!! :deal

Iron-Chin Frazier would NEVER get stopped by a ex-cruiser guy who hits like Holyfield! :deal

Overrated-Chin Tyson got KO'd by bloody tomato-cans Danny Willims And Bummy McBride!! It does prove Tyson has average chin! :deal

    Foreman Hooooooooooooooook!:smoke

They both fought at mid range, closed the gap, slipped jabs, used head movement on the way in and had great left hooks. Stylistically they have their share of differences but these similarities would.

Key differences are Frazier throws more, Tyson is more efficient/effect with what he does throw. Tyson jabs much more, Frazier liked to lead with hooks but his long hook was a little like a jab range wise, Tyson has more speed and is 2 handed

So yes many of the facets of Frazier that troubled Ali that Tyson shared, yes they'd trouble him too

Tyson's stoppage losses to Douglas,Holyfield and Lewis were the result of a sustained beating that he absorbed over the entire course of those fights. This is hardly comparable to a man fighting the first puncher he would ever meet and getting dropped six times and stopped inside of just two rounds.
