Obviously it's not hard sparring, it's no contact sparring, where moves are practised, but its not just play. Ali was basically saying Frazier isn't technically as good as Cus, which is true, Tyson ofcourse would be. Ali was right to an extent about Frazier because he dominated the early play in FOTC

I always thought Tyson was better but Frazier made up for it in heart. Overall Tyson a greater fighter and Frazier had the greater fights which was tied to that heart.

I think that we have to give Tyson the edge in chin, even if Frazier makes up for it in other ways.

The main reason that I don't buy into the "Frazier beat Ali so Tyson could beat Ali" argument, is the fact that Fraziers biggest advantage over Tyson is perhaps the most critical. Frazier simply applied more sustained pressure over the duration of the fight, and particularly in the latter half of the fight.

If Ali got out of the first five rounds against Tyson, I would be fairly cdonfident of him winning the fight, while Frazier would only just be getting warmed up. Frazier was just relentless, and the longer the fight went on the worse your situation got.

Frazier fought on the inside at your chest. Tyson wasn't as great an in-fighter.

Tyson did set-up a lot of devastaing KO's on the inside though.

He was more comfortable at mid-range yes, but all it took was a nuclear combination up close, & it could all be over.

Well, he's a short guy with short arms. But he was never like Frazier right in your chest with short body-shots. Tyson set up that uppercut on Fergunson which was deadly at a near range. But on the inside Tyson can get a bit squared up. He'd be a lot easier to just push off or hold.

In terms of technique? Neither was Ali. What's your point?

Holyfield did floor him from a shot to the chest in the 6th and was only a punch or two from knocking Tyson down before it was stopped anyway. This is the same Holyfield who the fight previous teed off on Bobby Czyz without coming close to flooring him.

Whilst I'll concede he showed he could take some big shots and remain upright, once he was hurt his powers of recovery were poor and he'd just plod forward and keep getting hit until he was stopped.

Foreman aside (and lets face it his power was in the freakish range) Frazier held up and came roaring back from some tremendous punishment against plenty of decent punchers/fighters to win fights.

Tyson's beard may be better than Fraziers but when it came to enduring and persevering through a sustained beating then Joe is all over Tyson.
