Would Tysons career at the top have lasted longer if the original team (Cus,Jim Jacobs and Kevin Rooney) been around him for longer.Do you think he would Have become the greatest HW of all time?
Yes, it would. After they went he started to look for the one punch to end it, rather than use his speed and fire combinations. He also abandoned his head movement which was so vital to him closely the distance. I think it's conceivable that he could of become the greatest ever. I guess we will never know.
His style would have dictated that he wouldn't have been able to maintain the form he had for very long. I'd say he would have went downhill after 25. Even still there wouldn't have been the competition for him to beat at this supposed peak in order to be named greatest heavyweight regardless of how well he fought.
I think competition wise he would of had to stay at the top at least until mid 90's beating holyfield, bowe and lewis on the way then he would of probably been considered the best heavyweight ever. But that is just to big an ask really isn't it
He would have definatley done better. D'amto's death was biggest problem, Tyson listened to him, and would never have left Rooney, who was perfect trainer for Tyson
He Cus D'Amato not died, or had he kept Kevin Rooney, I have no doubt he would be the greatest of All time at HW. Prime Tyson is still in my opinion the greatest HW ever H2H. Had everything, speed, power, boxing ability, defense, great jab, could counter, incredible finisher. He lacked nothing
obviously would have done better, not even done better because his achievements were already high, had his original team lasted longer i think tyson would of been top 3 without a doubt the way he dominated the division before he plummeted (post douglas)if that had been extended by 6 to 8 years, no one can say he didnt have a shout at being the best ever
Oh for sure, I think that became obvious after they split, his work ethic just went down the drain. I think that may have been worse for his career then the jail time.
Nope, his team wouldn't change the fact that Tyson was always a midget. He was bothered in his prime by bigs and it was only a matter of time til he got exposed. Great and entertaining fighter, but had limitations depending on the matchup. He would have never, ever beaten Holyfield or Lewis. Any version. Bowe? Would have been a great fight because Bowe would not have been disciplined to easily beat Tyson. He would have had to much bravado.
of course he would have had a longer run. if anyone couldn't see that he was already diminished SKILLWISE by pre prison then there not being honest or there's something wrong. holy wasn't big and if you don't think the fight(s) would've been different had they occured in the early 90's and with tyson still with his original handlers, then there's no point in arguing. holy was all 'geared' up and to his credit beat a good version of tyson in 96, but it wasn't the same guy. lewis wasn't too tall to be chopped down by smaller guys as i've pointed out to you before and guys that were inferior power wise and skill wise than tyson. yes prime tyson would have problems with huge elite hw's like lewis, vitaly, and bowe (to a degree cauz he fought small) but his speed and ability plus his power would allow him to have enough success to win more than he lost, though again these types of fights would weigh against a real long career at the top but it would've been longer for sure w/ rooney and cus and anybody keeping him in line even a little bit. **** tyson was still ko'ing b (and b-) level guys (whom were bigger) way past his best.
Tyson would've probably had a longer run but ultimately self-destructed. He was just a headcase. It wasn't like he wasn't getting into trouble when Cus was still alive. They just covered them up, but we've now heard more about these incidents.
He would've been great had he not had that unfortunate back injury. (On a real note, Prime Tyson is top 3 all time....although I can't help but feel like we lost out on a classic between him and Bowe)
I believe the original plan was for Mike to fight and then retire at 30. He would have been a pro for 12 years or so because he started so young. So, in reality his career would have been much shorter.
