Yeah but lennox isnt capable of moving up in weight and morales lost the trilogy anyways. I mean joe frazier beat ali, i dont see anyone ranking him top 20 all times. Morales will always be remembered as the guy that came up short in thier 3 fight series.
How did you score Marco Antonio Barrera vs Junior Jones II? Besides, Barrera would move on from those defeats, much like Lennox Lewis was able too, and go on to establish himself as a far greater fighter than the men who had previously defeated him. I don't penalize Barrera for failing to get redemption over his conqueror, he was a young man who had made 8 title defenses in the span 15 months. The losses were the best thing that ever happened to Marco but they do not define his career. Let's compare the punching power of a 6'5 Heavyweight to 5'6 Marco Antonio Barrera. Compelling point you make. :think
If that's how you remember Erik Morales than I really do feel sorry for you. I don't rate either Barrera or Morales anywhere close to top 20 of all times.
Even in a p4p sense, lennox has better power, better jab and better longevity. An old lennox beat vitali, and yeah he beat him, i dont wanna hear the bs excuses that it was a bull**** stoppage. Lennox made vitali's face look like a monster, and now vitali is the 2nd best heavyweight of this era. I'd say a 38 year old lennox beating vitali is more impressive than barerra beating hamed.
In a p4p sense, Marco Antonio Barrera had a better left hook, regularly displayed more effective body punching, and was the more technical puncher in combination. Furthermore, Lennox Lewis had around 10 years at the highest level of the sport whereas Marco Antonio Barrera became champion in 1995 and was no longer relevant at world level by 2008. I don't see better longevity? :huh Hamed was an undefeated P4P rated Featherweight who was more than a 3-1 to favorite going into the Barrera fight. Keep in mind that Marco had never fought north of 122lbs in his entire professional career, and won virtually 8-9 rounds in that fight. It was decisive and he closed the show. Lennox Lewis was older and out of shape, but Vitali Klitschko was best known for quitting against Chris Byrd, and most observers had the Ukrainian ahead on the cards prior to the cut stoppage. I don't see how you could really see this as a definitive and conclusive victory for Lennox.
You make it sound like the heavyweights are an easy division to be great in. Muhammad Ali, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis and Larry Holmes are always ranked higher on all time lists than barerra or morales. So even if your arguement is p4p, there are still 4 heavyweights that are held in a higher regard than barrera or morales. Lewis is considered top 5-8 in his division and one of the best in head to head terms. Morales doesnt even have a legit case as top 10 at featherweight and in head to head terms, there are many and i mean many fighters historically that would be favoured to beat him. We'll see when ring magazine makes thier updated list. They made one in 2002 and didnt have either morales or barrera in thier top 80, yeah what an impact those two made over lennox. Lennox beat razor ruddock in 1992 and beat vitali in 2003, my math says 11 years. I find it funny how you include the time period where barrera was losing and the time period in which he was wbogus champ, yeah the wbo belt was the legit belt right? I'm positive lennox has a better record against ranked opponents, he beat everyone he fought, barrera didnt.
I'm happy for Lennox. Truly. I can tell you're a big fan. You have good taste. It still doesn't cancel out the fact that Erik beat better fighters than Lennox Lewis did and was more successful over a greater range of weight classes. It's true, you can't really hold that against Lennox because he was a Heavyweight, but you're quick to compare the punching power of the three combatants in questions and I think that is nuts. There shouldn't even be a comparison in a P4P sense, Lennox was a 6'6 Super human...Barrera and Morales were little guys...Marco started out as a Super Flyweight. From 2002 onwards, Barrera would go on to defeat Morales twice and become a three weight world champion, Morales would also become a three weight king and would defeat Manny Pacquao in the process...who, as you know, is currently the best fighter on the planet. Like The Ring are even an authority anyhow, they have Aaron Pryor in the top 30.
I included the time frames when both Lennox and Barrera first became world champions to the point when they stopped being relevant at world level. Lennox retired, Barrera was defeated by Pacquiao. Besides, Donovan Ruddock had just took part in back to back wars against Mike Tyson and would never hold a strap at Heavyweight. A good win, though. Marco Antonio Barrera was considered the best at 122lbs during the time of his title reign, and had defeated and stopped Kennedy Mckinney who would go on to beat Junior Jones post Barrera. He made 8 title defenses in the span of 15 months and was world champion at age 22. Very impressive. I'm positive Marco Antonio Barrera defeated two Hall of Famers in their prime whereas Lennox Lewis didn't beat any.
By the way, I think its funny that you mentioned the fact that Barrera was a 3-1 underdog against hamed, that just shows what the media thought of him. I can't imagine lennox ever being a 3-1 underdog, not gonna happen. Lennox was so feared that bowe had to throw his belt away to avoid him, don king made tyson strip his belt in 1996 so he wouldnt have to fight lennox. Geez, i dont remember other fighters shitting thier pants on the thoughts of fighting barrera. Lennox was the best fighter in his era for his division, something barrera or morales cant say. Sorry 122 isnt a legit division. Original 8 are all that matter.
I'm postive vitali klitskcho is going into the boxing hall of fame and hamed isnt an all time great. Your just another guy that overrates little fighters. Barrera lost to pac, he lost to marquez, he lost to morales, it seems like the best got the best of him. I cant imagine lennox losing a decision to a b level fighter twice. Getting knocked out by a fluke shot yeah, but getting decisioned over 12 rounds, not going to happen.
This is all absolute tripe and holds zero weight. Donovan Ruddock was favored against Lennox Lewis. I tried to have a legitimate discussion with you but it's now most apparent that you have Lennox's balls in your mouth. 122lbs isn't a legitimate division? You're not a legitimate poster. Thanks for the discussion.
One HOF'er...albeit by cut stoppage. :good Barrera was past his best when he fought Marquez. He also won both rematches against Morales, and many had him winning the first fight. Pacquiao will go down as one of the greatest fighters to have ever lived, no shame in losing to this dynamo. I can't imagine Lennox Lewis being sparked by two B level fighters. ...Oh, wait.
Name the 10 best 122ers of all times, lets see how many are even top 100 fighters. Your not a legitimate poster, your just another guy that romantices little fighters and underrates the big men. If you think your points are so legitimate, then why wasnt barrera top 80 by ring, when more than half of his career was done by that point. Holyfield was the ring champ when lennox beat him, he may have been older, but hey thats the fight everyone wanted to see. By the way, its not like lewis was some young lion when he beat holyfield and tyson, hes the same age as them. Lennox will always have a bigger impact on the sport. If you think they are better, then why dont you make a poll? Im positive lewis will come out the winner. There are people on this forum that really believe he would knock out joe louis, jack johnson and rocky marciano. I have yet to see someone claim barrera would whoop saddler, argeullo or kid chocolate. Lennox is more relevant to his division historically, therefore hes the better fighter. Jofre and Chavez never beat a top 100 fighter, yet i have not seen one person on this board rank morales above them because he holds 1 out of 3 wins over paq and barerra.
Thanks for the discussion, BrownPimp...but it can no longer serve a purpose. When you're referencing the Ring's rankings, you know you're up **** creek.
