Hypothetical scenario starting from after the seldon "fight".
    Assumptions:

-He starts this scenario as the WBC/WBA Heavyweight champion, the day after the seldon fight, Rip Tupac :'(

-He hires giachetti right after seldon and shows up in top shape and with the skillset of the bite fight for each fight(because i think that is the best option for him. If you think getting back with Rooney or Atlas or another trainer is better for him then insert him here instead.)

-He recovers in time between before the next time even if he takes a beating and does not get injured outside the ring

-He gets the best psychologist in the world and does not lose his mind in a fight that is not going his way or party excessively to the point where it affects his performance and he is as focused as possible for each fight

-Don King spends as much money as needed to get him these fights in the following order, without him getting stripped of any belt before he loses it in the ring

-If he loses a fight he keeps going through the gauntlet

    My opinion in parentheses

vs Moorer for IBF title November 96(W KO 2)
vs Bowe February 97(W TKO 7)
vs Golota April 97(W TKO 3)
vs Ray Mercer May 97(W Dec 12)
vs Lewis October 97(W KO 3)
vs Botha February 98(W KO 3)
vs Holyfield May 98(L Dec 12)
vs Herbie Hide August 98 for WBO title(W KO 1)
vs David Tua November 98 (W Dec 12)
    vs Ibeabuchi March 1999 (L TKO 12)
    vs W Klitschko June 1999 (W TKO 4)
    vs V Klitschko September 1999 (L TKO 10)
    RETIRES

vs Hasim Rahman for WBC/IBF title June 2001 (W TKO 8)
vs Roy Jones for WBA title March 2003 (W KO 12)

roy jones.. tyson wins by ko in 12? absurd prediction, if jones survives that long he would win decision for sure, tyson never had great stamina and he would have showed all he had in the early-mid rounds

and 98 tyson beating 98 tua is just laughable.. tua by ko sure

    If, if, if...

A lot of reaching going on here...

I assume you are a Tyson fan? The lengths Tyson fans go to try to big him up never ceases to amaze me. The above scenario DIDN'T happen, and would never likely have happened as Tyson simply did not have the mental strength, stability and discipline required to adhere to the timetable and scenario you set out above.

If my Aunt had b**locks she would be my Uncle...

Wass that hurts my feelings :( I really needed your approval.
Yes Fasthands there is alot of reaching but I like to evaluate fighters on their styles their physical ability, I am very aware of what actually happened but I was interested in how good he was physically, as an athlete after prison. I am well aware of all of his mental issues and exactly BECAUSE they affected his career so much and BECAUSE I studied psychology I want to find out what he could have been without his problems

I wouldn't pick Tyson to beat any of these guys in the late 90's no matter who he hired or how hard he trained. He was too far diminished by that point and these men had the right attributes to take advantage of that. I realize that Wladimir Klitschko was still rough around the edges in 1999, and he DID lose to Ross Purity. But Purity beat Wlad by outlasting him over many rounds and endured a pretty good beating along the way. Not sure Tyson could do that. Klit would have a pretty good size advantage over Tyson and hunting a man down looking for that "one punch" isn't the way you beat a fighter like that.

Considering his particular character and mindset, it was money and fame that ruined Tyson's chances to excel post-prison.

Tyson said it himself in an interview from prison that in an ideal world he'd like to do a George Foreman style comeback, fighting often, 20 or so fights, small fights, tune ups, getting his skills back relatively away from the limelight.
But that was never going to be allowed to happen.
The money, the fame the hangers on. They were all there lining up. And Tyson's ego and appetite for the fame and attention aligned with the circumstances.

    Brilliant post.

I thought Tysons post prison career was managed incorrectly, but King wanted the bright lights and million dollar paydays asap whereas what they should have done is have him fight 10 bums of varying difficulty to get rid of the ring rust and then dip their feet in the top 20, then top 10.

And you don't think Tyson wanted all that at the time? Hindsight is a wonderful thing.....

In hindsight, he should've gone the Morrison/Moorer/Bowe/Golota/Foreman/Akinwande/Briggs/Grant/Rahman/Liakovich/Maskaev route, but it's too late now. He might've been DQ'd if he fought Ruiz. He could've ended his career with a showdown against Valuev.

He should've gone nowhere near Tua. I agree with the other poster on that.

Speaking of Tyson in prison, did you guys know that Ali marched to have Tyson freed from jail?

I think Don King gets too much blame for Tyson's failing. Tyson was an adult at the end of the day and it was he who was calling the shots with regards to his training camps and fights. There were so many other boxing promoters, managers he could have gone to. He saw how badly King mismanaged his legal defense in the **** case but still went back to King after prison.
