Yeah its been done over and over. But this was an interesting and candid article done for the 25th anniversary of this fight. Some interesting things I didnt know or hadnt heard like Jose Suliaman telling the ref before the fight that if Tyson was hurt to go easy on him, but if Douglas was hurt to stop the fight. http://www.playboy.com/articles/mike-tyson-42-1-playboy
OCTAVIO MEYRÁN, referee: Five minutes before the start of the fight, [World Boxing Council president] José Sulaimán spoke to me, with a witness from Mexico too, Joaquin Badillo, a personal friend of Sulaimán’s. As we walked from the dressing rooms to the ring, Sulaimán took my shoulder and he told me, “If you see Tyson hurt, be nice with him. If you see Douglas hurt, stop the fight immediately.” I said, “I’ll never do that. I’m an honest man and I never do that.” Then he told me, “Okay, go out to the ring and do your job the best you can do.”
Thanks for sharing. That was an interesting read. Tyson will always be the guy that got me into boxing, and never did I wish for a boxer to win like I did Tyson. The man brought excitement to the sport and division, like we never seen before or after him. I wish him nothing but the best and I'm glad he finally found happiness in his life.
Tyson seemed very candid and up front in that article. I mean he usually is, but I just keep expecting to hear excuse like most other fighters or their camps.
Never Tyson. He's usually pretty up front, and speaks his mind. Which at times causes conflict and makes for a good interview.
