Have you actually watched the video i posted? Tyson clearly asked Douglas for a rematch. King also tried for a rematch immediately but Team Douglas chose Holyfield instead The reasons why there was no Tyson/Douglas rematch. a) There was no rematch clause, Team Tyson didnt think theyd need one b) Douglas didnt give Tyson the rematch, instead he went and fought Holyfield instead c) After getting starched by Holyfield, Douglas went into a diabetic coma and retired from boxing. d) He returned in the late 90s. Tyson and Douglas were going to fight in 1999, however Douglas lost to Lou Savarese, same Lou Savarese, who Tyson sparked in about 30 seconds.
I've tried to explain the section from 16:30 to 20:00 many times to people who scream "Long count!" I can't think of one that listened... Thanks for posting this, back in the day when I had a copy of Tyson-Douglas on tape and used to rewatch it all the time, (like I expected the outcome to somehow change) this documentary was recorded right after the bout. Good to see it again.
this is a truly great documentary. tyson had his transgressions, but he was a complete class act in ight of the fact that he undertrained, the idea of a long count and the fact that he wasn't guaranteed an immediate rematch. he made no excuses whatsoever and gave all credit to douglas. also, the commentary of gil clancy and angelo dundee, two late, great boxing minds, is classic. thanks for this man.
Tyson would have absolutley destroyed him had they fought again. I just wish Tyson would have noticed that things weren't the same without Cus's guys in his corner. I really wish we could have seen what Tyson could have done against Holyfield and Lewis if he would have continued to train up in Catskill with Rooney in his corner.
Tyson got humilliated at the peak of his fame and glory by a goddamn nobody, it's only logical he would want a rematch
