I decided to watch some of the Ringsides from ESPN classics I have on DVD and watched Tysons. After watching some easy KOs I decided to watch a tough fight.

I watched the Douglas fight and up until the KO I scored it

    Tyson/Douglas
    10/9
    9/10 19-19
    9/10 28-29
    9-10 37-39
    9/10 46-49
    10/9 56-58
    10/9 66-67
    10-8 76-75
    9/10 85-85
    KO Douglas

    Analysis/Opinion

My big interpretation going into the fight was Tyson never got going did little took a beating and gassed.

Well Rounds 2-5 show a lethargic looking for the one punch KO getting jabbed by a Douglas who is on his toes bouncing throwing a wide assortment of Hooks Uppercuts Crosses and tieing up well and taking hte shots. Rounds 2-5 Douglas seemed totally unaffected by anything that hit him

Round 6 Tyson comes alive starts landing a very slow round Bob Sheridan had even I gave to Tyson kind of a either way round

Round 7 Tyson for the first time looks like Tyson. He's bouncing on his toes he is bobbing and weaving. But most importantly throwing. He lands some good punches on the inside upstairs and downstairs and actually appears to have hurt him at times.

Round 8 is the best round of the fight by far. This round is what made the fight. Tyson comes in and is carrying in the momentum from the 7th. He is moving and punching and showing the stuff we were used to. Suddenly Buster begins to connect and backs him up with jabs then gets power shots in. Tyson's back to the ropes ducks a 1-2 and lands a right uppercut in between but fails to connect solid but Buster holds on. Again Buster does the jab with the right cocked the same exact scenario Tyson ducks and throws a harder uppercut lands flush before Buster even got the right off. Just a perfect set up. He's down but he beats the count and luckily the round was pretty much over when he was up.

Round 9 was the end a very crucial round. Tyson comingback on the cards just had him down and is looking to end this. Tyson comes out on the toes and charging. He thrusts in with a left uppercut and some more. Then Buster lands big. He is hitting him and Mike looks hurt and wobbling. And for the first time he is iniating the clinches. He is in survival mode. I wanted to make it a 10-8 it was that bad. At one point you could have called a knockdown as the ropes were whaat held him.

Round 10 the end not a long round just Buster finished what he started in the 9th.

    Long Count Controversy

I used to laugh at this. I also happen to feel Dempsey Tunney II's count was right. However watching it for myself I kinda feel the count was bad. Now I rewound and watched it a few times and even did my own count. I picked it up where the ref began which was even a little late to begin with but he was slow. I think between 2-3 was a pause and then between like 6-7 he turned around looking to a corner then said 8 after the head turned. Definitley an extra second or two. Im no pro ref or anything but it looked off to me. Watch it and count for yourselves. Pick it up at the refs count, he is definilty slow and notice the head turn he makes pausing the count

With Douglas history, and people will probably laugh at me for this, I think he was purporsely getting up late and was ready to say he did enough and pack it in. He was just not mentally that tough. The ref did the right thing by almost mentally making him continue by giving him that extra little shove to continue. Douglas wasnt badly hurt and it was pretty obvious he picked up the count and could get up and continue. He sucked it up and finished the fight like he should have.
As far as Tyson the undisciplined, undertrained fighter got what a lot of people were saying was coming to him, its just too bad he never really learned from that defeat or made the right kind of changes in his life, because at his best he would have wiped the floor with Douglas.

Very good post. Douglas getting up and coming back made that fight special. If he stayed down everybody would say Tyson had an off night and came back late got the KO and it may not have been remembered.

Yeah Douglas quit against Tucker after leading in the fight. He had the same dam look on his face when he got up against Tyson. Hands by his side head hanging low. If there was 30 seconds left in the fight I dont think Douglas would have made it out of the round.

Where can you watch the Douglas Tucker fight I found a vid that had two rounds of it. Other than that fight the Tyson fight and Holyfield fight what did his career look like

The BELL RUNG WHEN DOUGLAS GOT UP! It's interesting what would have happen with about 20 seconds left in the 8th round.

We will never know. However Douglas looked very hurt but psychologically Douglas getting up must have took something out of Tyson's sails

I watched this fight the other day. I was at a count of 14 when he got to 10 and waved it off when Tyson went down. That ref just counts a bit slow, he did it the same for both guys.

Amazing Douglas was down on the cards, getting out box by Tyson, gets drop and comes back to Ko Tyson in round 9.

We all know had that fight went the distant, Tyson would still be heavyweight champion.

Funny you mention it..... I watched the Legendary Nights show the other day and was thinking that he wasn't really ''up'' for going on.
