    He fought with a broken bone in his back. Oddly enough I had a very similar injury while playing basketball in high school so when he said that he broke his back I could sort of relate. As in, I still played the rest of the season with a broken back - but it sure was painful!

    I didn't refer the spinal cord as a vertebral cord and neither have I ever read or heard it described that way.
