I think Evander stops Mike in the late rounds in a very competitive fight.

It would be much less competitive than their '96 fight, & Tyson wouldn't win a single round. At least in '96, Tyson won rounds 1, 3 & 5 on my scorecard, & he did great for the first 2mins 30seconds of the 10th before Holy came back to stun him with some superb counters as Mike was throwing all his weight forward into nukes. Tyson was actually explosive for much of the initial 5 rounds against Holy, but he had no explosiveness (none!) in the tank against Buster, & seemed unable to pull the trigger. A listless, lethargic sleepwalker Tyson (Douglas fight), who throws a simply pathetic 20 punches a round (like Haye!), & took a hellacious beating for 10 rounds from 42/1 underdog Buster, is going get totally dominated here. Tell me at which point a sluggish Tyson impressed you against Douglas? Was it the one big glancing uppercut at the close of the 8th round (when Mike temporarily awoke from his deep slumber for a few seconds), after absorbing some serious leather like in every other round? Well Holy took a collection of equally powerful bombs from Tyson, some of them flush on his jaw, & he absorbed them with his incredible titanium chin.

Tyson was in better shape against Holy, than against Douglas. No doubt.

Mike being very lethargic (Douglas fight) is a sign of dehydration for weigh-draining, like Foreman in the Jimmy Young fight.

I don't think there are many notable heavyweights in history that wouldn't have beaten mike that night.

Not to take anything away from douglas but let's not pretend he was anything special.

I think he was something special and I don't think many beat him that night, certainly not your man Bruno :D IMO he put in an ATG performance that night, using a perfect gameplan. Tyson wasn't 100% but he did start fast, used head movement and shows quickhands early. Douglas just perfectly neautralises him. To take away Mike's pressure and attacks, look how he circles to Mike's left going backwards diagonally, this takes away Mike's right hand and left hook pretty much while establishing distance. Because of his massive reach Douglas gets off his jab at this range, when Mike moves to the left Douglas times the right down the middle. It makes it very hard for Tyson to land while Douglas had success from the outside. When Mike did get inside note (1:31) notice the big left uppercut and he used that uppercut time and again whenever Mike was inside, that meant Douglas was dominating outside and holding his own inside

Douglas was always very talented, he rarely applied himself, this night and training camp was an exception after the death of his mother

The result of Tyson/Douglas had more to do with Douglas than it did with Tyson. Douglas had what might be the best fight of any heavyweight ever. He could have beaten anyone. His chin being his only libillity.
When Holyfield beat Tyson he took advantage of the oppertunity to beat a diminished Tyson.

In the fight Holyfield would likely win rounds but, Tyson would come out the winner by close decision or late round stoppage.

If Holyfield has got the fight instead of Douglas, he would have almost certainly done the honours.

It would have boosted both fighters legacies through the roof.

There are two parts to the equation: 1 is a man believing his own hype no longer taking training seriously; the other is a committed dedicated opponent willing to go through hell to emerge victorious.

With all due respect to buster, as creed once said about rocky, he fought great but he wasn't a great fighter.

Full credit to him, he did the business, but i'd say a large number of world class hw's could have replicated that success.

    That's right!

Do you think that Tyson would have been better conditioned if he was scheduled to fight Holyfield in February 90'?
