According to Eddie Hearn there is some 'politics' going on in Saudi boxing promotion. If it transpires that the outfit promoting the Ngannou show supercede Skills Challenge then Fury's acumen will be seen in a new light. A lot went on when virtually the entire boxing world showed up to the Paul v Fury Jr. fight and it doesn't seem to have played out yet.
McGregor was also famed for his power, but then he put on boxing gloves. Turns out he doesn't have any power, and got walked down by a guy famed for going backwards. Can't see this being anything other than a mismatch, but it would be hilarious if he knocked the pikey out.
They say chickens are stupid but the chicken that hides in the coop whenever the fox is on the prowl is smarter than the chicken who doesn't and gets eaten by the fox But surely that chicken can't hide in the coop forever and has to come out eventually? Yellow Belly admits he's a chicken and he does not care that everyone knows he's cowering in fear in the coop either He says I might be a chicken but I'd rather be a living chicken than a dead wolf and that fox out there who wants to eat me is an old fox and there are plenty of wolves out there who might get to him before he gets to me
Fury supposedly going to make $60 million for fighting the MMA guy. Let that sink in. He financially set up two to three generations of his family. Let that sink in. It is called "REALITY". God, Family and Country, Life's three priorities in that order. Boxing legacy is on down the list.
Fury is smart, knows how to carefully maneuver around the division (making great excuses to not fight), knows how to get in his opponent's head, etc. But he can be very disingenuous pretending everyone else is dumb. He also still shows flashes of the old Fury being manic or an emotional wreck. Fury's a bit crazy and not very good at hiding it while occasionally showing signs he's still abusing substances (which certainly doesn't help).
Yes, he's very smart. I've known it since the build up to the Wlad fight when everyone but the (then) minute cadre of Fury fans, of which I was one, were still calling him an unschooled moron and glass-jawed face-uppercutter who'd get splattered by the first good punch the cultured and multilingual chess-playing poseur Wlad landed. However, his intelligence is now being used to duck his rightful equal and fleece his fans, of which I am no longer one, while still somehow keeping himself relevant among the boxing public at large with silly WWE style circus fights that mean nothing from a sporting perspective but which are undoubtedly going to cause a ton of buzz and generate a lot of headlines.
What's false about what I said? Most elite boxers don't change trainers until they've gone through a defeat, he hasn't lost yet, either Tyson or his team know how to assess the opponent extremely well and prepare accordingly. Based on that, it's a testament to their intelligence and foresight.
