This is slightly off topic, but what do people think about the common heavy weight assertion that carrying extra bodyfat/weight helps them take a punch better?

It's the only division that this variable comes into play, with the others it would force you into a higher one negating any advantage.

What do you think are the trade offs between punch resistance and speed/endurance?

Reported heights are often a load of rubbish. Wlad has said himself he's 6'5 but he may be underestimating himself. They often hype up boxers by saying they are taller than what they really are.
In his early days on ITV Khan was listed at 6 foot!

By the way, this "looks ion shape" is a ridiculous comment. You can't surmise someone's aerobic/anaerobic fitness by looking at their body. Six packs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.

I wouldn't say he is looking in good shape.

Tyson Fury has one of those unfortunate body make-ups that will probably never be able to atain good shape. He's a big gormless gangly bugger and that's about it. He's never going to have the body to grace the cover of Mens Fitness. No matter how hard he trains.

Having said that. George Foreman wasn't exactly in great shape the second time around. And look what he did. Granted he was an old man then, but still...

He obviosuly consumes FAR more calories than his body requires for his substantial efforts in training. If he reduced his calrorific intake and maintained the same intensity in his training he would lose fat and look in much better shape as he will have well developed muscle under his couple of stone of blubber.

If he lost fat it would mean he was carrying less useless weight about with him- which can only be of benefit to him. The only benefit his fat brings is an extra layer of padding to body shots/
