A @Dubblechin special... Current Ring top ten, Wilder And Fury have one win a piece against the top ten ( Ortiz for Wilder, and Wilder for Fury) Whyte and Joshua both have defeated multiple current top ten. how do they justify their rankings at the top? Fury I get to a point but he should not be ranked over Joshua with his body of work, Wilder has not had a win since 2019 no way he should be ranked #3 ( on that note how is Ortiz ranked at all with his poor body of work, with one win after getting stopped in 2019 and that was a blatant dive by Flores)

Whyte has been KTFO twice. He's lucky to be ranked 4th.

Fair point on Ortiz though, not sure why he deserves to be ranked above Parker, Ruiz or even Povetkin.

Maybe it's those guys at the bottom half who are the problem of the top 10.

The list is just made up though.
Why have Rivas and Povetkin in the top 10 still ?

Just had a quick look at the various ratings:

    Boxrec have:
    Fury
    AJ
    Wilder
    Whyte
    Usyk
    Povetkin
    Ruiz jr
    Hunter
    Parker
    Chisora

I think that's a reasonable list based on achievements, resume, skill set etc. Better guide than Ring.

Here's the various bodies for completeness with the usual odd names cropping up depending on the arrival of the brown envelopes:

    WBC
    Deontay Wilder
    Oleksandr Usyk
    Luis Ortiz
    Andy Ruiz
    Joe Joyce
    Joseph Parker
    Michael Hunter
    Alexander Povetkin
    Filip Hrgovic
    Agit Kabayel

    WBA
    Oleksandr Usyk
    Bogdan Dinu
    Deontay Wilder
    Luis Ortiz
    Andy Ruiz
    Adam Kownacki
    Charles Martin
    Chris Arreola
    Agit Kabayel
    Daniel Dubois

    IBF
    Charles Martin
    Oleksandr Usyk
    Michael Hunter
    Filip Hrgovic
    Joseph Parker
    Agit Kabayel
    Tony Yoka
    Luis Ortiz
    Kubrat Pulev

    WBO
    Oleksandr Usyk
    Joe Joyce
    Joseph Parker
    Deontay Wilder
    Andy Ruiz
    Frank Sanchez
    Michael Hunter
    Zhilei Zhang
    Evgeny Romanov

Why would Povetkin not be in the top ten, he just went 1-1 with Whyte, drew with Hunter, and had a win against Hughie Fury, in the past couple of years. Extremely easily top 10

Why have Ortiz there he has been pasted twice in 5 fights won against 3 bums one of them who took a blatant dive..
Or Wilder without a win since 2019 getting humiliated in his last fight,

That's kind of the point the ring list is terrible. the top 5 especially looks out of whack when you view their records over the last few years.

He looked shot to pieces in BOTH the Whyte fights, he's 41 years old, he looked dreadful in the last one.
If any young fighter was to beat him in his next fight, blast him out in 1 round even, would that even be worthy of getting them a ranking ??

He looks finished now, and unless he proves otherwise, he shouldn't be a ranked top 10 heavyweight.
Most boxing fans are expecting him to retire, and not before time.

The win over Hughie (who isn't top-flight at all) was 4 fights ago, almost 2 years ago, and that's a long time when you're at this stage.
Since then he's had 3 very hard fights, had the stuffing knocked out of him further, looking progressively work in those fights.

    I agree.
The list is bad, and there should be some new blood in there.

Well, on paper Povetkin's ranking looks fair.
He had decision loss vs then 37 y.o ( not enough old ) Wlad who then had multiple belts and had been ranked top by multiple western orgs and ranking systems. No wonder why after this loss he didn't slipped in rankings much and had appeared in top 3.
If Wlad had finished him, he had dropped more, and if had finished quickly, even more in rankings. He went all distance and lost on cards.

Then he had good run with good fights and later had lost vs very highly ranked A.J who like 37 y.o Wlad then had multiple belts.
Again dropping in rankings was not serious. Drop lower than you were and that's it.
If old over the hill Pov had been beated by someone ranked top 6- 10 he most likely had been after this out of top 10 ranking after this.

Then this draw vs Hunter too didn't had impacted his ranking badly, maybe even helped not be inactive and remain in top 10.

Technically everything looks correct and fair.

Biology and reality is that he is over the hill long years ago. :(
30-35-36 y.o Povetkin had for sure beat up his own 37 y.o version, not to talk about 38 or 40 y.o version.

That's the nature of being an older fighter, that some of the opponents you beat along the way are irrelevant now (especially if they were marginal to begin with).

    Yeah.
However ranking systems usually are working like this: your and your opponent's ranking positions and rounds scheduled, round when fight had ended and method of the win.

If you had lost via decision vs #1 or even #3 fighter it might not drop you out from top 10.
If you will lost via decision vs #10 ranked fighter, and you had been ranked #6 or #8, then ofc you will drop in rankings more impressively.

This is also reason why fighters considered as low reward/ high risk might have difficulties to get good fights and over the hill, out of prime but highly ranked fighters gets fights more easily and not rare cases that good paychecks too.

Orgs also does have #1-#12-15# rankings that are below their champion.

And you for example are ranked #8, for business better is pick up some uncle ranked #6-#10 rather than fight with #15 ranked up coming guy in his prime. If you will beat him, you will not climb up so much. If he will beat you, you might appear in his previous ranking place and he will move up.
Pro fighting is like career job where you calculate risk/ reward and ROI for time/ money investments.

You don't rank boxers off of how you feel they look, you rank boxers off of performance, and the clear to see facts are that his resume in the past two years easily ranks him top 10.
