It worked against Wilder, but didn't work against Otto Wallin
Fury was cut to shreds and when he tried to bully Wallin, Otto hurt him.
This tells a lot about Wilder's level.

It's not as telling as all that, there are variables involved. Fury did not afford Wallin the same respect he afforded Wilder; his more candid comments prior to the Wallin fight, as caught by ITV's cameras, reveal as much. He was not near as diligent in his mental and physical preparation. Fury talking Wilder's threat down was a matter of gamesmanship, we can all process that.

Fury has fought down to less fancied opponents and raised his game for the bigger guns on a number of occasions.

One should also factor in that Wallin and Wilder are very different types of fighter.

And I don't see Otto being around to hear the final bell in a clash with Wilder.

That's because Ballin Wallin takes Wilder out in the 10th.
