Tyson Fury could barely land a glove on Wladimir Klitschko? Where exactly was the masterclass?

    i doubt it.
If anything, the opposite is true. The ease of the victory gave him no motivation. Along with everything else, his unpopularity, lack of promotion, PED allegations, etc. sent him into a depression probably.

I saw no reason to think Wlad would win the rematch. I actually expected Fury to stop him, from what I saw in the first fight.
I think Fury was actually a bit surprised by how easily he could read the robotic Wlad in the ring.

Beating the reigning heavyweight champion - real champion - is always significant.

Of course, context is everything and Wladimir was ready to go but someone still has to do the doing.

I don't really know what people are arguing about? Where are the people, in this thread, painting this as some sort of incredible win (beyond the bounds of it being, obviously, historical in the sense that it was the beginning of a new short-lived title reign)?

It's only overrated by the Fury fanboys. Real fans know Wlad was well past prime, slow and old. Good win, meaningful win, but not a win over a prime destroyed like the fanboys try to claim.

Just the fact that he outboxed him was pretty rare. I'm starting to see an even keel with the opinions toward fury. Sure it makes a good debate/ it makes sense both sides. It's either those who have their head up fury's ass or those who take his accomplishments with a grain of salt. There's no illusions here man, noone is perfect including t fury. Boxing is becoming a world sport again. Also would somebody please pay usyk step aside money? I really want to see Tyson vs Joshua in the UK. Frikkin easy fight for Tyson when you think about it/ not on paper. Somebody please pay usyk millions to fight deontay please!?

It wasn't a great win, or a truly great performance.

But it was a very significant win, the end of a long reign - and it was a very clear win. I don't see how anyone can give Wlad more than 3 rounds.
Also a big upset to dethrone a champion on 'his own turf'.

No. It was close, neither boxer did very much. If Klitschko would have won, the British fans would still be crying and whining about it.

But you don't seem to mind the robberies and dodgy British stoppages that happen all too frequently in the UK in favor of British boxers.

Celebrating Fury's win over nearly age 40 Wlad is the equivalent of celebrating Trevor Berbick's win over age 37 Ali. But unlike Fury, at least Berbick didn't resort to head games and dirty tricks (delaying the start of the fight by making Wlad wrap his hands twice, getting the padding removed from the ring to so Wlad's old legs would find it more difficult) to beat the great old fighter.

This! I was at this fight and it was boring but has grown on me.
Even on a boxing perspective how his awkward style threw Wlad off so he could never get the Rhythym going with the jab and Fury was taller with bigger reach. So he took his weapons away, the 1/2 and clinch to basicalky steal the rounds and win a decision in Germany. Which is impressive regardless how it looked.

Wlad was always too timid to let his hands go.
Remember Manny snapping at him about it?
That was in his downfall wjere he was taken out of his element.
By the time he figured he needed to let his hands go it was too late.
Would have liked to see the wlad that fought AJ fight the rematch though.

But Fury pulled of a huge decision win on the road to end an era.
His pre fight mental schooling of Wlad is also brutal.

So overall a significant big win but you shouldnt recommend it to a casual if you want them to like boxing.

I hate British stoppages and robberies.
I hate bad British judging, and the biased British commentary on British TV. I hate how British referees allow British fighters to foul.
    I like fair fights.

How many rounds did you think Wlad won against Fury?

    I didn't score it, I haven't re-watched it either.

Neither boxer was impressive. Old Wlad showed his age (as he did in the previous fight with Jennings) and Fury fought a cowardly, negative fight.

I only saw Berbick-Ali once too, never wanted to see it a second time, it was too sad (Ali would have easily beaten Berbick as a younger man, as a younger Wlad would have easliy beaten the big clumsy wanker.

So Fury ducked the rematch because it was too easy?

Funny how he managed to rematch the limited Wilder twice but failed even once against Wlad. :deal:

You can't see Wlad landing an extra 2 punches a round? You didn't watch round 12? OK.

I'm pretty sure - and i'm willing to be corrected on the timing here - that Tyson Fury claimed he tried to kill himself shortly after this and only a "voice in his head" stopped him from doing it. He was also an alcoholic who was using cocaine.

I'm happy to stretch the phrase "duck" to a certain degree but if this is accurate - are you really calling that a duck?

He also retired and didn't fight for three years.

Why compare Wlad to the Ali that fought Berbick? I don't understand the equivalence. Can you explain?

Both were old (similar age) and faded. Both were facing opponents that they could have easily beaten in their respective primes. Both had been long-time heavyweight champions. Wlad still had his power, but his speed and reflexes were not what they had been - he had no difficulty landing on slick fighters in his younger years (see Byrd I) but had trouble landing on Jennings and Fury.

I know you never liked Wlad, but please try to be fair.
Manny Steward wasn't in Wlad's corner for the Fury fight, it was Jonathan Banks. Steward had died.
