Tyson Fury: did he become a bit of a myth on the back of one win?

Spot on. The answer to OP's question is an emphatic yes. The Klitschko win was good, but it needed a rematch. There are too many question marks over the rest of his career and doubts about substance abuse. He should have a loss on his record to John McDermott.

    I’m going myth.

Fury is better than the majority of people thought he was prior to the Klitschko fight but nowhere near as good as he’s become in people heads since. He’s had 5 fights since December 2012, only one world championship fight and an absolute stinker at that.

In the same period, AJ has had 5 world title fights, one unification and is now 8 weeks away from world title fight no 6 and a second unification fight....

I think Fury is stylistically a nightmare for AJ but the lad gets way too much hate from the Fury fans.

yep, good post and couldn't agree more... Fury was seen as being decent, eccentric and awkward until the one fight that defines his career to date. Something up with Klitchko during that camp.

Jealousy. A lot of them cant stand the fact that AJ is well liked and very popular with everyone. I mean they even despise that women want to go and watch AJ fight.

Some seem to think there was some kind of conspiracy against Fury when he become champion but the reality is Fury brought all the negative PR on himself.

Not forgetting aesthetically there is a big difference between the two fighters. AJ looks like a HW champion, his good looking, a supreme athlete and when his not fighting he still looks the part.

Fury doesn't have the kind of appeal so no matter what would never be the guy for commercial partners as he just doesn't have the right look.

He needs to just get back fighting and fight regularly. He has one very good win but Joshua has several very good wins and although he has his flaws seems to be willing to fight anyone.

Fury is a myth and probably one of the worst ‘lineal champions’ of all time.

Infact if Mike Tyson was holding any type of belt when Williams beat him, I would have held him in higher regard then fury. At least Danny went onto fight a prime Vitali straight afterwards and didn’t run off and start sniffing Coke, getting banned from
Boxing and pilling on an extra 16 Stones whilst claiming to be the greatest of al time.

It’s Totally ridiculous this Fury crap- he should have a loss on his record to McDonuts on his record to boot.

I think that is an unfair comparison, If Fury had a promotional team behind him like Matchroom they would have had the financial clout to get the bigger fights earlier. If you go back in time Fury was calling out Wlad years ago. Wether he would have stepped in to fighting him at an earlier stage who knows.

You're also ignoring that fact that AJ is only able to step up and fight Wlad/Parker within 21 fights because Fury dethroned the man and AJ was able to pick up IBF relatively easily.

If Wlad beat Fury, AJ would of still fought him once he worked himself into a Mando position.

Fury ducked Price. Hid fans will say he didnt but facts are facts. He vacated the British title saying he is moving on to bigger things then fought Rogan for the irish title instead!

Fury is believing in his own hype. He wants 60% against AJ but that figure will drop to 40% after his comeback fight when he realises he cant draw, has a boring style and has punching power equivalent to a welterweight.

He’s stopped 18 of his 25 opponents (72%). This idea that he has weak punching power is a myth. It’s not just you mate, i’ve heard it loads.

He’s 6”9...if he plants his feet and hits an opponent as hard as he can on the button, he will knock them out. Tyson doesn’t fight like that though. He’s fleet-footed, often flicking out shots on the move. They’re scoring shots but they don’t transfer a lot of power. His style means that he sacrifices power to avoid getting countered. That’s the whole point of the sport apart from in the heavyweight division it seems. Flooring an opponent is a measure of a fighters quality in that division rather than outboxing an opponent. If you do that, you’re apparently boring.

BJS has a similar style. He sacrifices power in his shots for not getting punched in the face. Both are/were world champions. That’s no coincidence.

Tyson Fury ducked the rematch not once but twice, and the 12th round of the first fight showed what happened when Wlad started letting his hands go. Yes it took a while for him to start letting his hands go, but there is no doubt in my mind that Wlad would have knocked Tyson Fury sparko in a rematch.

Furthermore, Tyson Fury doesnt have a fan friendly or exciting style. The era of the runner is over and now fans expect their champions at MW upwards to get the knock out. Hughie Furys career is practically over after he ran all night and stunk the ring out against Parker.

I dont see Tyson Fury making a successful comeback where he wins all the straps and retires again. I see him get stopped and then running away and retiring in a huff before he even gets to the AJ pot of gold over the rainbow.

Ben Davison is a glorified David Lloyd PT and is not a proper boxing trainer. The only major fight he trained anyone for was the BJS fight were he stunk the joint out in a leisure centre in Paisley. Tyson Fury needs a professional boxing coach and he also needs to get some power into his shots. No one is interested in a powder puff puncher of a HW. No one gets excited by the HW who jabs and moves and edges his way to a painfully boring 12 round decision becaus he is elusive

Hence why the fury v Vlad rematch didn’t shift tickets. The first fight was a shocker and nobody was interested in watching ths5 borefest again.
