The Ali part, that's not true at all. Ali barely trained during his exile and got fat. Not Tyson Fury fat but to suggest he was training his ass for 3 year is not true.

According to Hauser, if I recall correctly, he was regularly in the gym and regularly sparred. Not to the same extent as he did before the fight but definitely enough to say 'regularly'.

But, as you say, he did put on weight during the lay off.

Angelo Dundee commented on the matter when asked about Sugar Ray Leonard, he said the difference between the pair is when Leonard was in retirement before the Hagler fight he kept in shape wheras Ali just got fat in his exile.

Actually Ali didn't train much during his exile.
He used to tour giving talks at College's and Universities for 5000 dollars a time to give him an income.

    The Albanian Holyfield!!!

Seriously, fight a midget bum if that’s where you think you’re at, but at least give him a month to train. SMFH.

    Fair dos.

I must have mis-remembered what Hauser said.

Dundee was right about Leonard. If you haven't read Sourcery at Caesars you should do as it is a fascinating read. It shows how obsessed Leonard was about Hagler and how he spent 3 years working on the fight plan, getting himself fit and even sizing Hagler up.

    You missed the context.

He didn't say he wanted to make a comeback by facing the same level of opponent as Muhammed Ali's on his first fight back .

He meant he wants to come back and become champion as he Ali did which is still possible.

Of all the things to criticise Fury for, this is very weak.

Maybe too many of you have fallen for his attention seeking trash talk where he says will come back beat top fighters with one hand tied behind his back.

It's all for dramatic hyperbole for camera, it's not real so take it with a pinch of salt.

He will fight a few bums until he is confident and removed the ring rust before he fights anyone worthy of note.

Poor, poor opponent. Especially when he said he could come back and get straight in with AJ or Wilder!

It is what it is though and he gets a pass the first fight. I just wish he had chosen a poor heavyweight to fight instead of a poor cruiser.
