Fury called his next fight against Nico Firtha a risk. :blood And because he wanted to give the Irish fans "a night to remember" he picked him as an opponent over unbeaten Mike Perez and Leif Larsen. Also taxi driver Martin Rogan (who beat Audley some time ago) was a mentioned opponent for him, but he now mixes it up with Pulev instead. Although Firtha (20-8-1, 8KO's) lost all but one of his fights against decent opposition, he beat Tony Grano last year by KO2 in a major upset and won some domestic USA HW title with that performance. If you ask me this is a major step back in competition, and clearly a showcase fight. Maybe that's what Fury means with "giving the Irish fans a night to remember". :bart
The Chisora fight was only two months ago so I have no complaints. Povetkin just fought this guy in his 21st fight. It's a stay busy fight, nothing more. Of course Fury is going to talk the fight up. What do you expect him to say?
its a **** fight...only douche bags give anyone a pass for a fight like this..."oh he just fought an undefeated chisora, so i have no problem with him fighting a guy who has 4 wins in last 8 fights" the 4 guys he beat in that span Joseph Rabotte 5-9 Tony Grano 17-1-1 Mike Sheppard 15-10 Ross Thompson 27-15-3 im sure everyone will be buying prime rib, have 50 people over and gather around the tv to watch this
I have no problem with him taking an easy fight after beating a couple of unbeaten guys in a row. But there's talking a fight up, and being obviously transparent. He clearly took the easiest of the available opponents, and then calls it a better fight because "the guy has mixed in a lot higher company than any of those other guys" atsch
:|:|:| There's only one boxer who has a better record with the same amount of fights. That's Helenius. You are such a ****ing whingebag.
Surely you've learned by now to take the words of boxers/promoters with a pinch of salt when talking about upcoming fights.
Tyson Fury fought 2 months ago and its been hard for him to find any decent opposition to fight him. Im sure hell step it up soon, for now though this will have to do
I think your out of line here with boxing and match making fella its his 16th pro bout and two and half years into his pro carrer. This is a good matchup...Firtha lost on points to Povetkin last yr...and generally it takes a good amount of rounds to get rid of him. Perfect fight...6'6 hopefully Fury fights again late october.
I don't really rate Fury (yet) so I think this could be a pretty good fight. Fury at home is a big favorite of course...but it will be interesting to see if he can dispatch a big dude like Firtha.
That's not the issue here... Fury clearly steps down in competition, while there were good fights available for him, and then tries to label it as a risky fight. Even dismisses guys like Perez (who KO1'd Firtha beater Fields) and prospect Larsen (who I have to admit hasn't fought anyone yet). It's not about the opponent, it's about trying to label something an apple what's actually a cherry.
I can't stand Fury at all. This isn't a high risk fight but he is still young and has just come off the Chisora fight. Hopefully, he steps up soon and gets ****ing battered.
Fury is doing fine. He needs more fights to grow. He could have canned it from here and jumped in with a Klit like the rest of the HW's try to do. Instead he is going to stay active and try to get his **** together enough to be a challenge. For 23 years old, and being as under trained as he has been, he is doing damn well for himself. And what do you want for 2 months since his last fight? You can't line up mega showdowns that quickly and you also cannot expect a guy to fight for peanuts just so he can get a better guy across the ring for him. Firtha is a Top 75 or so ranked Boxrec HW. He is not a pathetic opponent and he would beat almost every 1 of Fury's past opponents. Those undefeated guys were not all that. Rich Super Power is nowhere near the level of Firtha. And there has never been a more overrated HW than Derek Chisora. Firtha is decent for this fight.
