Tyson Fury . Genuine great fighter or personality driven legacy?

Why are there so many of you weirdos who have it out for Usyk? Seriously, it makes no sense. Dude is clearly one of the greatest guys to ever lace up a pair of gloves. He's nice, funny, doesn't talk trash on his opponents, humble, and he's an absolute dawg that goes to everyone's backyard to fight them. Yet it's just constant pissing and moaning and trying to downplay his achievements. Like it physically pains you goobers that he rightly gets praised for the unassailable career he's had.

Is it because you hate your own pedestrian existence so much that a guy having that much success rots your brain? Like, I can't stand Fury. I think he's an overrated, loud mouth, lying, con artist who is just generally an awful person. And yet I don't create thread after thread trying to downplay his achievements and trash talk him constantly. That's psycho level behavior ya'll have. Seriously, seek help. At the very least, go outside and touch grass.

Fighting only once a year and rematching the same guys over and over seem like actions guaranteed to **** off a lot of fans.

Why would anyone think it was okay to fight once a year? It robs fans of fights and holds up the division. What more within reason could Usyk do to anger boxing fans?

I guess he could try fighting even less often.....

 

Literally no one outside of you obsessed weirdos cares about Usyk fighting once a year. I haven't heard a peep about it from anyone in the boxing media.

It's also disingenuous to act like it's only an Usyk problem. It's a boxing business problem. Of course, you know this, you just have a vendetta against the man for whatever reason. Dubois has been one of the most active HW fighters and he fights twice a year. Fury is at most twice a year and then he retires to do PEDs for long stretches. AJ? Twice a year. Chisora, once or twice a year. Kabayel only fights once a year. It's difficult to make fights happen at the upper echelons.

Oh, and blaming rematches on him? Really? Like any of these mega British stars are ever going to fight him without a rematch clause in place. Please. And him fighting Dubois a 2nd time was ya'lls fault for pretending that shot in the 1st fight was low and then crusading around calling Usyk a liar, a cheat, and a fake Christian. They snatched his IBF belt a week after he became Undisputed and gave it to the guy he just made quit on a jab who wouldn't stop chattin' ****. He had to put that nonsense to rest. Which he emphatically did in 5 rounds.

Cope. Seethe. Usyk is feel, very feel.

 

He was mandatory for Joshua which means Joshua was in no position to force a rematch clause.

And why would anyone not want Usyk to fight more often? I assume every boxing fan would prefer greater activity and that the inactivity is terrible for the sport. Of course he should be criticized for being so inactive as should other guys.

If guys start fighting every two years on average will critics be obsessed weirdos? Once every three years? Genuinely curious

 

It's widely known that multiple people around AJ were pushing for him to drop the belt and not face Usyk. This was Hearn, Rob McCraken, etc. Firstly, they knew Usyk was going to be tough no matter what the mouth breathers said about his fight with Delboy. Secondly, they were trying to set up that big fight with Fury. So, if you're Usyk, how do you bait the hook well enough to get the superstar to fight you for 3 of the belts? Say sure, you'll sign up for a rematch. Plus, Usyk got paid peanuts for that 1st fight at Spurs. Estimates are he only made $3-4 million while AJ pulled in around $20 million. So the only way Usyk can make some real money is in the rematch.

And obviously I would love for all fighters in all weight classes to fight more often. Inactivity is endemic to the sport up and down the weights. People always pick out Inoue as this hero because he fights a lot every year, but he's an extremely special case. The lower weights don't command the same money. Those guys get paid peanuts. So they're always looking to fight. Plus, Inoue has an entire country at his beck and call. Outside of Ohtani he's Japan's biggest sports star. For his upcoming fight with Nakatani they're literally selling movie tickets so people can watch the fight at theaters around the country. So it's wildly easy to make an Inoue fight profitable. Thus, he can fight more often.

 

He was objectively a good fighter.

Physically speaking -

• Great chin
• Good stamina
• Agile
• Decent power
• Great powers of recovery

Technically

• Good jab
• Versatile (Orthodox or southpaw, front or back foot)
• Good technical boxer all round
• Good variety of punches - Could combo well
• Fantastic defense in his prime, evaded shots well.
• Could survive well when hurt

Fury's prime ended in 2020, he has been much slower since then, and Fury gave Usyk his best fight by a considerable margin. The first one was actually competitive.

 

AJ noped out of the Dubois rematch for a good reason. He’s seen Foreman-Frazier 2. He knew that sometimes a guy just has your number, badly, and you accept it as a man and move on rather than get yourself hurt to accomplish nothing. Rather than a duck, I actually call that one a smart, humbling decision in a sport based on confidence and pride.

Dubois did more long term damage to AJ than all his other pro fights combined. Would have been dumb to run it back for the same result (or worse).
